A beautiful and cinematic new single from Misao McGregor delivers an honest approach and a dream-esque tonality that lets the song feel like it's alive and breathing as it swells and grows in intensity the more it plays on and with all of this certain kind of persona that lets them wear their heart on their sleeves and this is the kind of thing that lets the whole song wrap itself around you and keep you right where it wants to.
"meet me at the river" is coated in Lush and smooth vocals that are harmonizing and floating through the ether of the song along with a piano and a subtle bead that all come together along with some other instrumentation and once you're there, you kind of don't want to leave.
I can't express enough how cinematic this feels to me because it was so emotionally driven and the way that it builds and is arranged is brilliantly done.
This whole track has such a fluent and forward-moving feel to it that it's very easy to get engulfed in it and then washed away with the whole soundscape in the end.
Some elements to this are somewhat orchestrated and everything here feels so authentic, so you know it came from someplace real.
This is part of what makes the song so addicting. Misao is the type of artist who gives pieces of themselves and in doing so you find certain lyrics and things that are song to be very relatable.
This is something that felt like it was possibly even cathartic for the artist to write and release like these were things that had to be said and the only way to get them off of their chest was to do it with their music which I find beautiful and also exactly what artists should be doing.
I feel like their zone or happy place is in their studio recording their songs and just being free because you can feel the sort of openness with the song itself as well, especially in the performance.
Again, there are just layers of these beautiful vocal tracks floating through the song and the whole thing almost feels like it could have served as the soundtrack to a chapter in your own life which is a wonderful connection to be made musically.
All in all, it's that character and that Honesty that you find yourself getting attached to and you can tell that Misao is an artist who has a true love for their craft, and I don't just mean producing, or composing, or singing, I mean songwriting and putting all of those aspects together to create something impactful for the listener and for themselves.
That's the kind of stuff that makes an artist and a song memorable and this track had a certain kind of effect on me as it pulled me away from my surroundings and put me in someone else's world for a little chunk of time.
Songs that give you that little piece of escape or wondrous and we need more of them in the world right now.
This was like a dreamy indie pop single that had elements of contemporary and a whole lot of beautiful dynamic balance and performance that gave the song a certain kind of charisma and the whole thing kept me floating a few feet above the ground.
And excellent track from an artist that I will certainly be keeping an eye on from here on out.
I'm giving this an 8 out of 10 easily.
