Raphael Sommer Teams Up with Mark Benecke & Bjorn Pankratz to Bring Us Something Quite Unique

Updated: Sep 26

A new release from Dr. Mark Benecke, Raphael Sommer, Björn Pankratz, and Bianca Stücker serves as the soundtrack to a bit of an epic adventure that is orchestrated and built as a film score that delves into the depths of ancient Egyptian Mysteries and more.

But it's much more than just an EP. It is a musical adventure.

The X-Mysteries: Ancient Egypt & Forensic Mysteries release features intensely orchestrated soundscapes with all instruments involved and it creates such deepening and rich atmospheres with arrangements and progressions that take you through these different smaller journeys within each track.

This was an absolutely gorgeous piece of work altogether, and it does have quite an adventurous underbelly.

Truly inspired by major film soundtracks and scores, this piece of work has a way of grabbing you and wrapping you up and everything that's going on.

Everything from horns, strings, and vocals are all part of this piece of work and each one creates a bit of an atmosphere that you can really fall right into.

The first track which is the biggest of them, is called "The Tombs of the Pharaohs" and this one gives off a very fantastical and vast tonality that certainly lends a hand to that cinematic backbone that it was birthed from and throughout this piece, you're taking through these different levels of intensity and mystery that have a wonderful way of engulfing you and eventually washing you away with the whole soundscape.

There was a ton of attention to detail during the creation of this piece as it is a beautifully constructed classical work however, it also has that alive and breathing sense to it as well.

It does take you on this adventure and by the time you're a few seconds into it you've been pulled in so this piece of music alone can really take you away from your surroundings and put you in a different place altogether, and it feels amazing to do so because it is a great escape.

And I think that's a huge part of what this is meant for. A sort of escape into your mind and like a good book, you're given the emotion and the impact of the songs, the lush array of instruments that come together and bind, but you also have a little space for your imagination to do the rest.

So even if you watch the trailer for this and you get a gist of what it's meant for what it's actually about, you still can envision your own sequences while you're listening to this music, and I think that's part of the fun of pieces of music like this one.

Rafael is a visionary working film composer who's been doing this since the age of 19 and he's always been enveloped with the fantasy genre, which is perfect for him, especially after listening to this release.

Raphael and his team of partners have put together X Mysteries as a musical story and adventure that they give you pieces of and you can fill in the gaps the way that you want to which is super involving and connective.

The record is performed with Mark Benecke & Bjorn Pankratz who complete the project together.

This release is part of the upcoming full album set for this December with a new single coming November 1st.

This was such a brilliant idea, and such an outside-the-box thought process, but it works incredibly well with such a smooth and forward-moving flow that I can't believe it hasn't been done before.

If it has, I certainly haven't heard of it. For me, this is one of the first times I've ever heard of a musical story that is put together for the listener and it's something that has a magical way of putting you in the moment.

If you are someone like me who has grown up with some incredible scores from incredible films floating around in your head for years, then this is 100% for you because it takes things to a different level in a unique way.

This is such an in-depth experience and everything behind it was so well thought out but never loses the character that it comes with.

This may be the most important point of all of it. It does have a massive amount of character to it which again to cinema.

This was a beautiful and brilliant idea that came through exactly the way it was meant to and I would definitely be checking this out right now if you are someone who loves this kind of work.

It's inventive, it's got charisma, it's got emotional drive, it's adventurous, and it's everything that it's set out to be and more.

We have put the trailer below so you can really dive into this, and you can also learn more about the whole actual project below that.

Take a deep dive into this record and the whole idea behind it.
