Laptop returns with a fresh single that showcases the band's ability to bring genres together seamlessly and still keep a heavy-handed groove and a bright pop coating, while delivering a bit of a message that most of us can relate to.
"Confused" delves into a general state of mass confusion, and I think we can all understand where they are coming from with the sentiment.
This was layered with brilliant vocals that held true to that funk undertone and the beat it boasts, and it all felt lively and danceable, even with some scattered elements and rambunctious builds into these sorts of intense sections.
I feel like this song is centered around the world not really knowing what's real and what's not.
There are too many people joining sides and it builds such a divide that the media uses to create more divide.
This works all too well , and it's done so often that you can't decipher what is real anymore.
Every media source edits and filters video clips to work however they want. Clickbait, ragebait, it's all there, and we all fall for it.
The problem is that it pushes us farther away from each other. Now we can't tell if the news is fake or real. Do they just want likes and clicks, or are they doing real journalism?
This is the confusion I think the song is based around.
They have a great drive behind it, and these layers of vocals that flow throughout the track give it more texture, along with some outstanding changes.
The single also comes with a music video that expresses more of what the message is by portraying news reports on what feels like a fake CNN type of channel, and this solidifies some of the ideas I had for the song's messaging.
This was beautifully done, and really all hit close to home for a lot of us.
Upon checking this song out, I also found another new release from the band called "Indie Hero", which had a similar musical drive and four on the floor style beat, along with a different sentiment, but such a vivid way with lyrics that it really paints a picture as the song unfolds.
I love the band's approach to writing and how songs can be sort of colorful and pop-coated but still deliver heavy-handed messages and stories.
Both songs speak volumes for Laptop, and you should not miss either of them.
Lucky for you, we've embedded them both below for your viewing and listening pleasure, so jump right in.
