An EP release from Only Love combines some classic indie rock with an alternative rock edge and undertone but it's all delivered with a super fun and almost animated sort of character especially on the vocals.
The Deaths Night Shift EP features a lot of driving bass lines and super full-bodied drumming that all comes with an electric energy that the band boasts, and they do so with a certain kind of charm as well so the whole record has a little bit of a theme to it.
This is an EP that you listen to from beginning to end because, in a way, it tells a story, and each song connects to the next one in a particular way. Hence, it is pretty much a concept record. They do it super well in terms of the detail with the lyrics and how the storylines tie into each other.
Still, the impact of the music itself has this driving and high-octane rock soundscape that packs a hell of a punch but also comes through with a lot of color as much as it does edginess.
The release sticks to this sort of sonically huge feel, but the songs have a little bit of a pop coating to them so, I find it enticing to have a record that tells a story about death performed with such a vivacious and pop-riddled approach because those two things in combination end up being a super fun.
One of the things that I love the most about this record is its combination of influences and how each song portrays a little bit of a different side of not just the story but the bands forms of songwriting.
You have that classic alternative in indie rock undertone a lot of the time but there's also pop punk, garage rock, and more that are sort of infused throughout the record.
It is indeed that performance and that energy that left this whole thing come through as electric as it does and these are songs that are memorable and have a way of sticking with you for a while so again, I would urge you to listen to the whole record because first of all it's only 20 minutes long, but if you don't listen to the whole thing you'll be missing pieces and, in a way, it's like watching a movie or reading a book and skipping chapters.
All of these songs are complete bangers, and by the end of it, you even get a nice fat grunge song.
And this track is a perfect closing to the record.
Even though the record's only 20 minutes long, it does let you escape whatever you're doing and dive into this scenario, and these songs really well because they create a cool atmosphere and a little bit of the element of surprise musically.
Most certainly take a deep dive into this EP and you can turn it nice and loud because it's really a good time that way, but I think that you'll find this onslaught of rock genres in subgenres really come together super smoothly throughout the course of this release and you can tell that everyone in the band is having an amazing time doing it.
Check this out and most definitely have a listen to some of their previous singles as well because they're all really good.
