Fake Mannequin is a fairly new project in terms of releases, but what they have out so far is really quite breathtaking, especially because the songs have a wonderfully swelling sensation to them, and the deepening sense of soundscape is something that grabs at you, wraps its arms around you, and keeps you right where it wants to.
"Silverspoon" is a track that was just recently released, and this one really depicts how the duo is able to create something that is impactful in a musical and instrumental sense.
The changes in progressions throughout the song are beautiful but also haunting, giving an almost ghostly vibe during certain parts, mostly because of how the vocals are performed and the melodies that are being sung.
Vocalist Amy Horn has a particularly silky and dreamy style and tone to how she sings. Her voice is super notable, and between her and Tor Laurens, they really found something that works.
The song is of the trip hop nature and gives you a very neo-noir sound much of the time, coming through with an elegance that is very unique.
There's a lot of string-like sounds and keys that are creating an expansive body, and it feels almost like one of those dreams where you're falling backwards.
It's got a fantastical element to it. Almost like watching a film.
Listening to the song lets you feel almost like you're floating face up in a large body of water, staring at the stars in the night sky. There's a sense of peacefulness that comes along with it. It is strange, but it is true.
It makes you wonder if the production of the song is done before the vocals, or if vocal hooks are written before the production starts happening.
Listening to songs like this makes me wonder how it all begins and then how it comes to fruition in the end.
I would have no idea where to begin to write a song like this one, but I would assume that there's definitely some kind of vision for it before it all goes down.
Amy doubles up on her vocals throughout the song quite a bit, and when that happens, it feels bigger, and the melodies come through even stronger.
There are also guitars and other plucking instruments that happen, scattered throughout the song itself, but it all becomes whole.
This is a song that you don't easily forget. It builds a mood that you get sucked into, and the lyrics go along with that mood quite well.
Along with this single, another one previously released called "Same Tree" feeds into a similar approach and sound, with a lavish sonic environment for you to explore.
And that's what the songs beckon you to do. They want you to explore these worlds and sounds.
These two, being the first two tracks released on Spotify so far, are pretty impressive.
They've obviously found their footing and have worked plenty to develop the sound that they're going for before releasing songs to the open world, and that certainly paid off.
These songs have a bewitching element about them, bringing on a little bit of jaggedness to the music, probing into something that feels almost alternative, but still keeping things somewhat surreal.
This is like music for a waking dream, with an aspect about it that feels incredibly unknown or surreal.
I definitely enjoyed how they brought the bizarre into the dreaminess and put them together perfectly.
Don't miss out on this one because it's definitely something different, but something you can swim through.
You'll have to listen to it to see exactly what I mean.
Go do that now.
