An EP release from Sanity comes through with a heavy and hard-hitting orchestrated metal approach and it breeds an incredibly lush and full-bodied soundscape that serves as an escape from your normal, day-to-day reality.
The Revelation EP has a certain level of intensity but also has a vastness in its undertone as well so the combination of this fierce and thrashing metal with that expansive and flowing undertone gives you something unique and almost theatrical in a way.
The guitar tone alone is absolute perfection and the way that it all comes together feels like there was so much attention to detail but throughout it all, it never loses its meaning or purpose.
There is a certain kind of character attached to this record and indeed it is pretty theatrical honestly. These songs interconnect with each other and almost serve as chapters each connecting with the last so this is more like a concept record than not. Or at least it feels that way to me.
The guitar work is astounding, and some parts serve as heavy trudging and fiery riffs while other times they serve as amazing and beautiful harmonies, and I find it so refreshing and almost rejuvenating to hear that combination of fire and gracefulness together.
This was a massive record and it's only about 22 or 23 minutes long, but it feels much bigger because there's so many layers and so much going on during its course.
I definitely adore so much about this release but one of the things I love most is how they pulled everything together and made it all make perfect sense along with their outstanding way of bringing different sub-genres of metal together seamlessly.
You have killer breakdowns, hard-hitting thrash and melodic metal, these orchestrated string synth pads that flow throughout the record and give it that cinematic backbone.
There are definitely several textures that are brought into this piece of music and it's a record that you have to listen to as a whole not just because it's a concept record, but also because you can't grasp the full spectrum of this record and what it has to offer by only listening to one or two tracks.
Like I said before, a lot is going on throughout this release, and for anyone who's into deep-rooted and almost fantastical orchestral metal, then this is 100% for you.
The vocals and drumming are both insane as well. The vocals have different levels and styles of screaming but also belting and robust melodic singing and that is also an amazing combination to have on one record.
The drumming is spectacular and definitely helps this band have the drive so that they can push the envelope to where it all needs to be.
This is one of those bands that each instrument and each element complement each other perfectly.
There's definitely a lot of attention to detail throughout the course of this record but, it never does lose that sort of spirit, energy, or purpose and that may be the most important aspect of the entire thing.
Outstanding refs and precision by all parts and it's truly a band that has a love for their craft.
When I say this, I don't just mean playing their instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together to put out to the world so that people can soak them in the way they were meant to be.
This record was like reading a good book or watching a short film and when it's over you have to reacclimate yourself back to reality again.
This to me is like a gift in music and I'm someone that can really appreciate that.
A blistering and beautiful record from a band I'm going to be paying a lot more attention to from here on out, most certainly take a deep dive into the Revelation EP as soon as you can, and don't be afraid to turn it up.
