An album release from Natalie Price delivers quite a robust honesty that comes through with some descriptive and detailed lyrics at times but also gives off an outstanding combination of both color and edginess as the record runs the gambit of songwriting styles that have rock, sing a songwriter, indie pop, and more all rolled into one opus of a record that feels like listening to a diary from Natalie herself.
The self-titled Natalie Price album is very well woven with a lot of attention to detail, and although some songs hit with a heavier harder rock type of feel and bring a swagger and attitude, others have a softer and more subtle approach where she gives pieces of herself.
They're also songs that breed a sort of dream pop feel with massive ambiance and vastness in their underbellies. Those along with some of the acoustic singer-songwriter soundtracks have a way of giving off a sort of cinematic backbone.
I think what maybe most important here is that all of the songs are genuine and certainly feel like they come from someplace real which makes everything incredibly authentic and that's when you really start becoming attached.
What she's giving here is character and personality which is something that a lot of different kinds of music in general are missing these days, but with this release you're getting everything right in your face because she's not afraid to wear her heart on her sleeves and she's not afraid to speak or, sing her mind so, this is a very lush and full-bodied kind of record that creates an atmosphere that you end up falling right into.
I absolutely adore the different styles of songwriting that this record encompasses, and it is certainly one of those albums that you need to listen to from beginning to end not only to get the full picture of everything but also to soak in everything it actually has to offer because if you listen to only one or two tracks from this record, you're going to miss out on a lot.
Some songs are acoustic guitar-based and can be more stripped down but feel immense and intense at times and some of those even bear a little bit of an Americana tonality, but again, there are a lot of different kinds of songs throughout this record and they still connect and are confluent with each other.
Throughout the record you'll see and hear that she is collaborating with certain different artists but not every song has a collaboration so it's very well balanced in terms of her working with other musicians on this record.
Upon listening to this release, I took a little bit of a deep dive into her previous releases and found several singles from this record released previous to the album itself, along with an EP from 2019 that is amazing.
Natalie is the type of artist that you keep an eye out for which I will certainly be doing from here on out because this record hit more than a few sweet spots for me and felt very personal and expansive in different ways, especially musically.
Check this record out when you get a chance and again, try and listen to this from beginning to end as a whole because that's truly the way it was meant to be soaked in.
I'm going to also suggest that you listen to this record with headphones on so that you can really hear all the different things that are happening musically throughout the record and be able to catch a lot of the meaning behind the lyrics.
See how this record affects you.
