A new EP release from Jason Lane Band brings on some emotionally driven classic feeling hits in the form of rock driven singles that each have their own vibe but all fall into this catchy and real classic rock undertone with some excellent guitar work and an energy that becomes quickly addictive.
The Stone in the Water EP is packed to the brim with a bluesy rock feel and all the attitude that comes with it, but it also has this nostalgic soundscape at times that brings up this almost 90's tonality.
The songs all have these choruses that really get stuck in your head for days on end. They have this cinematic style, and the approach vocally is soulful and alive.
The guitar work on this record is ridiculous. It's got such a rich tone and the solos are just passionately performed and can totally get the hair on your arms to stand up sometimes.
Vocals belt out and beckon you and your attention and it all falls together in this live performance way. Like the players are feeding off of each other's energies the whole time.
It actually makes you want to see this band live so you can watch them rock with all the heart they portray on the recoding. And I'm sure they do just that.
The riffs are just soulful and real. Genuine and full of gusto and style.
You can bang your head, sing along, or groove along with just about all of these tracks. They all do have such killer grooves to them, and they are always right in the pocket.
With such a powerful EP release, we wanted to touch base with the band to find out where these songs actually came from and what may be next for them.
Here's what happened.
RAG: Okay so let's start with the Stone In the Water EP. This record has an amazingly blues rock feel to it! Where did this EP come from?
We have all played in hard rock, rock and blues bands for many years, we love guitar riffs, solos, and great melodies. Stone In The Water is a cocktail of all these elements.
RAG: So how did this all begin for you guys?
JLB was formed in late 2019, right before Covid hit. The lockdown gave us two years to write, record, and prepare. As soon as things opened up again, we hit the ground running at mach speed.
RAG: Who is in your headphones right now?

Always believing we can write a better one than the last.
RAG: I'm hearing some great styles on this song. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Far too many to mention. We don't listen to one genre, we listen and are influenced by them all, Rock, Metal, HipHop, Pop, and Country. RAG: What are you all doing when you're NOT working on music?
Thinking about music.
RAG: Would you say live performances are a big part of what you do?
Yes, live performances are everything we work towards. Connecting with people and sharing our music is the end game.
RAG: This EP feels like a big undertaking, is there any advice you'd give to other up and coming bands out there?
Commitment and passion will achieve the goals you set.
