A brand-new single from Kanude plays out with a light-hearted pop-rock approach that blends an indie-pop sound into the mix at times and delivers a lot of character via animated vocals that you can't help but pay full attention to and enough character for you to attach yourself to right from the get-go.
"Catch One and All" certainly bears some classic rock influence, especially in the vocals and the way the song builds but the vast undertone in the guitar work of the track gives it this more expansive feel and it becomes quickly catchy.
You can hear elements of bands like Pink Floyd for example coming through in this incredible bridge section and this is where the song gets down and provides a heavier groove.
The base tone alone throughout this track is stellar but it's that combination of color and edginess that grabs at you and the way the vocals are doubled up at times and have this slight echo effect pushes the envelope a little bit more, but it all creates a certain kind of atmosphere that just wraps itself around you and keeps you right where it wants to.
The whole soundscape of this track was very detailed in its creation, but it never loses this sort of character or persona that it starts with in the first place and that might be the most important part of the whole thing.
There's also something kind of nostalgic about it in a way and even fantastical and I like how the tonality of the guitars in music actually changes from verse to chorus at times and that breakdown section speaks volumes for the track and being able to insert a whole different feel into the track at free will.
There are certainly some layers that can be peeled back here and there are some great surprises around the corners, but this is a track that doesn't exactly follow others and sort of breaks free of certain boundaries that you're used to so because of that the whole track becomes even more enticing.
This whole thing has great grooves, charisma, and this energy that at times can feel almost like a live performance.
The main hook and chorus of the track ends up sticking with you and bouncing around in your brain for hours or even days after the song is ended and the only way to satiate that is to listen to the song again which in my opinion is just great songwriting.
Upon listening to this single I took it upon myself to go ahead and take a deep dive into the back catalog of Kanude and upon doing so I was pleasantly surprised with some full-length albums and singles that he's dropped starting in 2008.
Although this seems like it's the first release since 2017 it does speak volumes for the artist in terms of his evolution as a songwriter.
Having said that, there is plenty more to offer with previous releases, especially an album called Colors which was the 2017 release.
I will certainly be keeping an eye on Kanude from here on out and looking very forward to whatever comes next from him.
Check this track out as soon as you get a chance and listen to it with headphones on as it's one of the best ways to soak it in my opinion.
