A new single from Yogurt certainly has a way of hitting home as it delivers a special breed of honesty and does so with a youthful and robust pop-rock approach that blends in classic underground rock soundscapes with fresh ones and this combination lets the song have this massive character that you end up latching onto right from the start.
"Pity Party" has such a catchy and colorful approach from the lyrics to the melodies and how the vocals and guitars follow each other during the chorus.
There are definitely some great influences that helped create this track and you can kind of hear how each player has a little bit of their own influences and brings those to the table as well.
I'm certainly hearing a lot of the Pinkerton record from Weezer which is one of my favorite records of all time, so this certainly gave me a nice warm and nostalgic feel at times.
This is sort of like a garage pop rock single and it has a certain looseness to it and wildness that is completely infectious and touches on even classic grunge at times.
One of my favorite aspects about this whole track is the base tone half of the time because it's so rambunctious and adds to this vivacious persona that the whole track delivers.
Another thing I enjoyed was the sheer fact that it's got musical Hooks and not just a strong chorus.
There are multiple guitar hooks throughout the track and that's something that I've missed in all kinds of music for a very long time so I'm happy to have it back here and believe me when I tell you these guys do it just right.
There's this great 90s aesthetic that's completely nailed but you have to be the type of person that listened to that underground sort of lose indie rock during that time to really catch that.
This had a lot of brightness to it and the energy was unbelievable because it felt like it was recorded live on the floor where the players were just feeding off of each other the entire time.
Even if I'm wrong about the whole alive on the floor thing, listening to this track makes you want to see them play it live in your face because if the energy is captured on record this way must be awesome.
This was completely memorable, colorful, fun, honest, packed with charisma, and has a way of bouncing around in your head for hours or even days after it's ended and the only way to say she ate that is to listen to the song again and again.
This is one of those bands that you dig the little deeper into after you hear a song like this which is exactly what I did.
They have a bunch of great releases starting only last year but enough for you to get a great feel for how they do their thing and how much fun they have doing it because that's an aspect that comes through and every single track.
Definitely check this song out as soon as you can and don't be afraid to turn it up because by the end of it, you'll be singing along with your hands in the air.
