The Musical Stylings of Jessie-May K

A single release from Jessie-May K bears a lot of honesty and does so with a very unique approach as she sings about what at first feels like a description of an actual nightmare, but in reality, she's singing about a certain kind of struggle, and this gives the song a ton of character and makes it super authentic.

"Nightmares" is a very cinematic feeling track as it has this vast undertone with notes that flow through the song's ether making it expansive, and on the forefront, you have an acoustic and vocals so throughout the track you do end up getting pulled into not only the soundscape of the track itself but the lyrics as well because not only does it feel relatable and that she's actually giving a real piece of herself in the song but it feels almost as if this may have been cathartic for her to write and release.

During the song she talks about having nightmares where she's being chased by monsters, and I think that in reality those monsters represent certain aspects of her life that she was running from, and this is depicted very well if you listen carefully through the song.

I adore the approach to this whole thing because not only does she really sing openly about her inner thoughts and possibly even her demons, but she turns that all into monsters in a nightmare and that's a brilliant way to put yourself out there and I think that different listeners may soak this in or interpret it in different ways but, this is how I took it and I think this is what the song is really about.

This is a full-bodied track that has electric guitars in there, and this ambiance that wraps itself around you and keeps you right where you need to be so not only do you get sort of engulfed in the textures and music of this track, but you also end up getting washed away with it in the end as well.

By the end of the track, you have string sections that are brought in, and it makes the song even more cinematic and even orchestral.

One of the things that really shows her presence as an artist even stronger than just the song itself is it accompanying music video in which she runs around the house escaping monsters that are coming after her, and this is not only shot incredibly well but it showcases a different side of her creativity and her self-expression.

This also helps push the premise of the song and lets you into her mind a little bit more even and this is important because a song like this in a certain way has fewer boundaries and walls built around it so there's a lot to soak in and one of the best ways to do this is by watching the music video itself.

This was a very well-performed and arranged track that speaks volumes for Jessie-May as an artist and as a person because she delivers this song with character, passion, honesty, color, and a little bit of haunt.

Of course, we have embedded the music video below for your viewing pleasure and I suggest this is the first way you listen to the track.

This single is actually part of a full EP release called Zone Out and it's five-song spectrum does a wonderful job of showing different sides of her as a person.

Take a deep dive into all of this and see how it affects you.
