Davy Williamson just released a killer melodic alternative rock track and it's a near perfect radio rock song seething with brutal honesty and an addictive chorus.
"Thin Disguise" is a building powerhouse of a song with some intensifying percussion and passionate vocal performances, a massive soundscape, and an edge that gives it a polished grit that really works.
This single boasts a cinematic undertone and comes with heavy hooks and some lead guitar solo's that destroy as the music beneath it breathes and swells.
The track feels almost familiar like you may have heard it somewhere before and carries a certain energy that sticks with you.
This is a song written by an experienced songwriter and instrumentalist without questions.
"Thin Disguise" is already gaining traction and with it's release we wanted to have a chat with Williamson about the song and where it came from.
Here's what happened:
RAG: Okay so let's start with "Thin Disguise". This track has a very radio
alt-rock sound to it and gets pretty intense and honest. Where did this
song come from?
Davy: I like to leave my songs open to interpretation but this song was written
about being torn between my two parents and how their separation affected me as a
child.
RAG: How did this all start for you?
Davy: I was always a big fan of all types of music and idolized how
cool it would be to one day be on the big stage, then I began playing and the rest is
history....
RAG: The single has some killer rock styles fused into it. What bands really
influenced you as an artist?
Davy: Most of my influences are from various types of artist and
bands like Lagwagon, Face to Face, Journey, Phil Collins, Led Zeppelin, The
Temptations, Etc......
RAG: Did you have a band to play live before?
Davy: I started this project after Covid-19 began so the answer would be no. Will you be putting any focus on live performance when the time comes? When the time comes I will have a group
together to perform.... As of now, I will just continue writing and putting new music out.
RAG: What's next for you as an artist?
Davy: My EP will be released in March, so I am looking forward
to that and keeping my fingers crossed for the chance to perform live.
What are you doing when you're not working on music? I own a construction company, so
most of my time goes to that and my family.
RAG: How do you write your songs? Is it lyrics first or do you write it on an
acoustic? How does it work?
Davy: I typically either start the song with a guitar riff on the
acoustic guitar, or a drum beat I have going in my head, from there, I build the
instruments one at a time over top of the original idea and then build a melody without
having lyrics in place. Those come last for me most of the time.
RAG: You've got almost 7k followers on your Spotify already! What sort of
advice might you have for other up and coming bands trying to get heard?
Davy: Build a fan base organically,....play shows, go see other artists anytime you have the chance. Support those who support the industry in which you are hoping to have a lasting career in.
RAG: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
Davy: I love you all and I look forward to seeing you all soon at one of my live shows!
