Spotlight Interview with Danjul

A fresh pop banger from Danjul brings out a super crisp and honest style of shimmering pop single with layers of textured sounds not natural and synthesized and it all comes together with an intense set of vocals that really showcase the artists ability to create an atmosphere that becomes something you fall right into.

"Drama" has layers to be peeled back and with each one brings some new emotion and drive to go along with these outstanding sets of keys and beats that swirl around you but hit with an edginess to them and just pull you right in.

This really did quite a job of showcasing this youthful and vibrant new style of pop and R&B that bring out such a bright and massive soundscape.

The single has cinematic attributes to it and the whole thing comes across with a great sense of emotional drive and openness.

The song gets stuck in your head after a listen or two and it's really something because as you're listening you can really comprehend how much is actually going on.

But in the end, you get so much melody recurring in your brain and that performance does feel passionate and real.

With the release of such a unique and alive single, we wanted to have a talk with Danjul about this single and more.

Here's what happened.

RAG: Okay so let's start with "Drama". This single had a fresh almost future-pop and R&B sound to it! Where did this single come from? Danjul: I wrote the song lyrically & had a melody, went to my producer (at the time) Nathan Bankston and him and I created the sound pallet for it back in July 2021. I wanted a combination of genres mixed together! Once Nathan played me the demo I knew it was fire! RAG: I'm hearing some great styles on this release. Who are some of your biggest musical influences? Danjul: Michael Jackson, Brandy, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Nicki Minaj. I honestly have so many but MJ & Brandy are my top 2. But I definitely have the determination to bring a new original sound to my music. I definitely pay homage to the greats no cap! RAG: So how did this all begin for you really? When did you fall in love with making music? Danjul: Honestly, I wasn’t raised in a musically inclined family. Never a choir boy, no Disney auditions lol we (meaning my mother & step dad) we didn’t have the money. But I started writing poems as a way to express my feelings. My mom noticed I was good and pushed me to enter contests and I won! As for music, I love music! I played the Brandy’s “Never say Never” album so much my little brother would cry! Haha! Music is literally my air…..I listen to music more than watching tv or anything. RAG: What's next for you as an artist? Danjul: Well, I recently just experienced a great loss this January. I lost my grandmother…she was truly my world. One of my biggest supporters, she & I would watch the Grammys etc praying one day I’d be on there! So this year honestly has been a blur….but I’m in talks with some heavy hitters in the industry to get things poppin early next year! As of now promoting my single “Drama” & working on newer music like always! I’ve been featured on 5 independent magazine covers which was surreal to be honest. RAG: What inspires you to write a song? Danjul: Pain. Weird right? I can’t write when I’m happy…..which is rare because I laugh & stuff….but if you was to ask “if I’m happy?” No, I’m not…..I just coast along…doing the best I can on my own. RAG: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music? Danjul: Hanging out with my brother “Brandyn”. I drive him nuts lol but he’s my best friend. We really only have each other…I hope to make it so we both can experience life in a way we’ve never got the chance to before. Life is hard….but I mostly listen to music or eat pizza lol RAG: Who are you listening to right now? Danjul: Brandy! (That’s always). I like the new Chris Brown “Breezy” album. That Drake “Sticky” song is fireeee! The Weeknd, um literally anything that catches my ear. I don’t even listen to my own music hahaha! Not because it’s trash, it’s just hard for me to listen to my own stuff….you get it right? Okay! Next question lol RAG: Are you doing live performances? Danjul: No, I’ve never performed as an artist! Only as a backup dancer. But I’ll be doing a showcase sometime next year! I believe in artist development, now a days these labels don’t care and just throw artists out there to fail. Not I sir lancerlot haha! I want to be great! So I take my time with the artist development part. It’s important too me. And the people I’m working with understand that. RAG: This single seems like a big undertaking. What kind of advice might you have for other up and coming artists out there?

Danjul: Stick with it! I’ve been on a 15 year journey with this!!!! I definitely have a story to tell. But also have a voice…meaning, know who u are as a person & a artist. Don’t settle for just anything either! What’s for you is for YOU!

RAG: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music? Danjul: Thankyou! So much for supporting me! Continue to stream + download my newest single via Bentleyrecords titled “Drama”. Thankyou for this opportunity & interview guys! Much love.
