A new single release from Savannah Gardner brings out a very vivacious and honest approach that feels spirited and great to listen to, as it sets a certain mood for you with its youthful and vibrant performance and sentiment.
"Born In The Wrong Generation" is a track that a lot of us can relate to. This is a song that feels like it's about wanting to put yourself out there and looking back on previous generations and seeing how they had it, making you wish you were living then so your spirited inner self can fit in.
This is a warm track that brings beautiful Americana tonality with a little bit of a classic rock vibe and some folk undertones, but it has this personality attached to it.
It's that personality that grabs hold of you.
I absolutely love how this song comes across because not only is it relatable, but it's something that connects with me.
This is an example of an artist who isn't afraid to speak her mind.
Savannah is unafraid to give pieces of herself in her music. I think that's important, especially with songs like this.
As I mentioned earlier, this has that Americana, Southern-kissed tonality, and that's part of why it comes across so warm and welcoming.
That tone also works perfectly with the sentiment of the track and how her vocals come across in the performance.
She's got this roots vocal approach. You can hear the country influence heavy-handedly, and there is obviously a slew of classic country influences that come into play throughout the course of this track.
The single is lush with beautiful instrumentation, amazing guitar work, and these layers that add textures to the song so that it has a great depth.
As the song goes on, she changes her tune and the song becomes something that feels like someone who wishes they were born in a different generation, but then realizes she was meant to be born when she was.
She's meant to be right here. This is her time, and she's certainly taking advantage of it.
So there are two sides to this coin. Looking back and soaking in these past generations, wanting to be a part of those. The generations our parents were part of or even our grandparents.
Things seemed a little different. But, there is also the here and now. Since we're here, we might as well live our lives the way we want to.
It is that robust character Savannah delivers on this track that keeps us locked into it.
It keeps us connected. It's a shared understanding, and again, it's so insanely relatable, warm, classic, and just performed with this energy that is completely infectious.
There's something a bit cinematic to me about this track, but there's also a little bit of a nostalgic undertone as well. It's not the music. It's the lyrics that can give you bouts of nostalgia.
There's something about the track that gets you thinking of your own past, and I think it's a very conscious kind of track.
Realizing you're here now and appreciating it, loving it, embracing it.
I feel like that's what this track is really about. Embracing the here and now. Loving yourself and being free in a sense. Free to be yourself.
This is such a great song and just stays with you for hours after it's ended.
In my opinion, it's also a song that speaks volumes for Savannah as she's really able to, again, put yourself out there and unleash these inner thoughts that spill out for everyone to soak in.
The beauty about it is, everyone can understand and relate to it.
The California-raised, London-based artist has been dropping amazing tracks since early 2021, which you can hear a lot of on Spotify.
Upon listening to this track, I took a deep dive into her back catalog, and there are so many great releases from Singles to full-length albums, including one release last year called Recovering Good Girl, which is absolutely outstanding.
This album is also an amazing example of how she is unafraid, a little bit vulnerable when she wants to be, but just spirited, proud of herself, and it's all part of that personality that makes her presence shine as an artist.
I would start with this single, but work your way back through her catalog of music because if you like this track, you're going to like a lot of the other ones.
She's a classic country and Americana performer and songwriter who drops memorable hooks and loads of honesty, which, in my opinion, is kind of a rarity these days.
Soak this one in as soon as you can because it's well worth your time. So is the rest of her music.
