Ruby Grove Gets Ready for An EP Release with "Ocean Sun"

A refreshing new single from Ruby Grove delivers a set of descriptive lyrics that hit you enough to paint a picture in your head, along with this semi-psychedelic sonic soundscape that comes through lush and spacious with plenty of character attached to it all.

"Ocean Sun" has a lot of wonderful layers going on, and it has a bit of a dreamy undertone, which serves the song perfectly because of its natural floatiness and flow.

This is an indie pop track that incorporates plenty of other genres and influences into the mix, including that psychedelic element which comes mostly from the experimental but colorful synths that float through the songs ether and with everything involved, it takes you to a different place and serves as an amazing little escape from the ordinary.

There is a vibrant sort of brightness to this track, and although a lot of this comes from those keys, guitars, colorful bass lines, and live drums, it also has a lot to do with the vocals.

The vocal performance shines with presence and brings that lightness to the track.

The whole thing has an airy feel. Like you can grab hold and float right alongside it, which I think is part of its sentiment.

This is a feel-good song, and it's got a spirit behind it, and this spirited approach brings out such vivacious character, but none of it's over the top.

I love the way the drums are done because they are perfect, in the pocket, and all of that, but they also bring that liveliness to the song and make it feel like it's got a live performance vibe to it as well.

The whole thing has an outstanding arrangement and composition but it's really the performances and elements of experimental tonalities that bring this whole thing to life.

As you listen to the track, you start to realize that the spirited and colorful tone becomes infectious, and you begin to feel good as you hear it all.

There are elements of classic, almost underground 90s rock vibes happening here, because the guitars have this chorus effect on them, and it reminds me of that era of rock music to an extent.

Those vocals come through powerfully as the chorus approaches and the tracks are doubled.

The way she sings has a gusto and heart behind it, but when the tracks are doubled like that, there's a thickness involved, and that feels like a whole layer of texture added to this already robust but smooth and silky soundscape.

It's quite a beautiful thing to soak in, and I would suggest listening to this one with headphones on because, again, all those layers that float around through the track are best heard with headphones on.

Such a brilliant song in terms of lyrics because she gets descriptive enough for you to get pulled into it. It's almost like reading a book.

The music sets the mood for what she's singing about, so the two elements go hand in hand.

The lyrics and the music are like puzzle pieces that fit together perfectly.

This whole thing has a sonic presence that brings together a kind of classic pop element into an indie rock and Indie pop format, and I love the sound of the old and new school tones coming together that way.

You can hear a slew of influences throughout the course of this song, and if you close your eyes while you listen to it, it has a wonderful way of swimming around in the air that surrounds you.

Every element of this track comes together the way it was meant to, and it's got a very particular aesthetic that feels good, charismatic, but also dreamlike and drifting.

It does actually almost feel like a dream you don't want to wake up from.

We've all had those, and this would be a perfect soundtrack to exactly that.

It's breezy, sun-soaked, and warm and a lot of different ways.

I definitely held on to this one and just took it in, and when it was over, I felt a little invigorated and relaxed.

There is actually a bit of a calming sensation about this track too.

But I digress. You'll have to listen to it for yourself to see exactly what I mean, and again, do it with headphones because it's absolutely, hands down, the best way to do it.

"Ocean Sun" is but a glimpse of an upcoming EP set to release at the end of the month called Ripple Effect, and if there are other songs like this one, I can't wait to hear them.

I love being able to escape into a record, and I feel like Ruby Grove is the kind of band to pull that off for me.

Take a listen to this right now.
