Quaint Delusions

Quaint Delusions’ latest track, “Vexing #9,” immediately evokes a nod to The Beatles' psychedelic era, with its title subtly suggesting a possible link to the experimental “Revolution 9.” But rather than going full avant-garde, the band channels a more structured, yet still hazy, vibe.

The band’s Bandcamp description offers a wide-open interpretation: "Climate change has arrived, as predicted... Choose your vexation. Apply liberally." This flexible thematic approach reflects the song's ability to invite listeners to impose their own frustrations onto it.

Musically, “Vexing #9” thrives on its solid foundation. The guitar and bass interplay is smooth, the 4/4 beat steady, and the keys add a subtle sheen. The real strength, though, lies in the dynamic shifts. Instead of hitting hard with contrast, the hook—"Is it hard for you to see / All that happens was not really meant to be"—introduces a gentle ebb and flow that makes the song feel like it’s unfolding naturally.

In a time when so many tracks are hyper-polished and overly quantized, “Vexing #9” stands out for its organic feel. The structure, performance, and delivery breathe with a kind of warmth that feels all too rare these days. Quaint Delusions have crafted something worth sinking into. More of this, please.
