Manneq In Me - "War"

Dig into the new release from Manneq In Me. The new track, "War" provides some intense and beautifully performed vocals and guitars and you can watch the video for the new single above.

“The song was an emotional outpouring for me. I was sitting in my living room late one night and I just let loose. I wrote the song in a couple of hours and just kept listening back to it. I knew it would be a great track," -  Shelley Dufresne  (Vocalist)

"As most of our tracks we tend to feel it works better within shels vocals with a heavier dynamic and gives her lyrics and vocals that extra emotional feel. We both like the rock / heavier music that’s influenced us over the years" - Rachel Silcox (Guitarist)

Why music saved me.

In my twenties, my life changed dramatically. At 23, I became a mother, and there was little time for anything else. The untimely death of my sister, and my marriage falling apart, had put my mental health in decline. That's when music saved me. I bought a laptop and started writing songs and lyrics as an escape. Music became my therapy and friend.  I would sing in the house and record little bits here and there and I played around with covers bands but nothing stuck.

As a child, I grew up with a father who was a musician. He was mostly a country musician singer and sang, and played various instruments. He used to gig a lot and we would quite often go to his gigs. His claim to fame was appearing with his band on the Benny Hill Show. Around 14, I started singing some songs at his local gigs with him. We would also record covers in a little home studio to spend time together after my parents divorced. My mum liked to spring auditions on me and when I was 15 I auditioned for a 'Steps' tribute band which joined. It was great fun and my first experience earning money as a singer. At the age of 16, I started going to a recording studio to record some demos and that's where I met some other musicians.

They were looking for a singer for their original band and although I had been writing lyrics for some time, that was when I really first started properly writing lyrics and melodies. We disbanded due to other commitments and after that, I sang covers and worked with another original band as a backing singer. What changed?

After a few attempts to find someone to collaborate with me, I ended up joining a covers band. It was through posting up some songs I performed with one of those band members on Facebook that I met rachel. She messaged me, sent me an idea for a song, and the rest is history..Shelley Dufresne

 Born to Play Guitar.

Rachel is one of eight children from a Welsh family. Her passion for music was deeply influenced by her late mother, who passed away when Rachel was just 12 years old. Growing up in a musical household, Rachel’s sister was a singer on the cabaret circuit, and her partner, a guitarist, taught Rachel her first three guitar chords. The loss of her mother had a profound impact on her, and it wasn't until later in life that she picked up the guitar again. In her earlier years, Rachel performed in various cabaret and rock bands, but her ability to pursue music was often restricted by her family responsibilities and personal circumstances.

In the early 2000s, Rachel resumed playing and connected with musicians beyond her Welsh roots. A pivotal moment in her musical journey occurred when she met Rob Bruce at 'Rich Bitch Studios' in Selly Oak, Birmingham. Rachel spent several years playing at the studio alongside talented and well-known musicians, which significantly broadened her musical perspective and appreciation for different instruments and techniques.

Rachel was also the guitarist for the original Welsh band 'Music is Math' and maintains contact with Chis Long (the tech wizard) and Adrian Scott, the band’s drummer. During the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic, she built and set up her own studio, Black Mountain Records, and began writing music more seriously. However, she initially struggled to find like-minded musicians to collaborate with until she serendipitously crossed paths with Shelley Dufresne—an incredibly talented artist also living in Wales.

The chemistry between Rachel and Shelley was perfect, leading to the formation of their band, Manneq In Me. Since then, their music and songs have been flowing continuously.
