Loud Tiger returns with a beautiful record that easily displays how her influences come together to create and build atmospheres that feel conspiring, influential, or just plain honest.
Cactus is a bit of a long-awaited record from the artist, as Loud Tiger has been dropping singles for a little while, and we are finally able to dig into a whole record's worth of songs that can make you feel or think.
She always comes through with an amazingly heavy-handed pop sensibility, which lets her songs have a certain brightness at times.
Her ability to blend folk, pop, and even country is something special because she's doing it in such a seamless fashion.
A lot of output and a natural knack for songs that let you almost visualize what's going on or how she's feeling as they play through.
The very first song on the record gets you into the vibe of what you can expect with this harmonious and robust set of vocals that bear plenty of passion and give a bit of that country soul as well.
"Medicine" definitely puts you in the moment with the song and you can feel that uplifting Spirit.
This is a love song, of sorts. I really enjoyed the way this one was approached, especially lyrically.
Anyone with a special someone who makes them feel better when they don't feel so great can relate to this first single.
Meanwhile, songs like "Dire Straits" dig a little deeper in a different direction, showcase more drive and little hints of darkness, dealing with different kinds of struggles.
There's a lot of persona flowing through the veins of this release. It comes on strong, but once you get into a few songs, you ride that wave.
She's giving you little chapters of her life, or so it seems.
This makes a lot of the songs come through in an authentic manner. You know it came from some kind of life experience, or at least it really feels that way.
"Bang Bang" is a bit of a unique track on the record because this one most certainly feels influenced by classic rock. You get this sort of Fleetwood Mac vibe from it, and it's about the beat, the way the drums were recorded, the guitar tone, and even how she's performing vocally. Her singing is amazing on tracks like this because she's got that heavy passion, but it's also somewhat familiar. It's got that classic rock underbelly lurking just beneath the surface.
So, this is a record that combines different elements to make something its own. She has created a lot of moods and atmosphere built off of pop, but influenced by much more.
This is a record well worth hearing. As a matter of fact, it's a record worth hearing all of.
If you only have time for one or two songs, then I would suggest some of the ones I mentioned already.
Most memorable for me would be "Bang Bang", "Medicine", and "Cactus".
This, of course, is only if you, for some reason, can't listen to the entire album. It's much better as one piece.
If you like someone who can tell a story, get descriptive, be honest, and still deliver songs that are catchy and memorable, this release is absolutely for you.
Dive into this one now and you'll hear exactly where I'm coming from with it.
