A brand spanking new single from Hello Enemy just hit and it comes in wasting absolutely no time with a fierce approach that gives off a blend of massive, sonically driving alternative rock, a little bit of garage rock, and plenty more all rolled into one fat Banger of a track that hits hard exactly where it needs to.
"Hit or Miss (Na Na Na)" certainly isn't without it's pop aspects as well and believe me when I tell you there is a great hook in this track that sinks into your brain and sticks with you for hours after the song is ended.
The best way to satiate that is to go and listen to it again which in my opinion could be smart songwriting but I think these guys just do it naturally.
This is a song that boasts a ton of edginess but it also has color to it as well and definitely feels like it could be all over the airwaves because it's not over the top but it's perfectly balanced in terms of that edginess and that catchiness as well.
One of the first things you'll notice about this track is that fuzzed-out grueling bass tone and this is an imperative part of the whole aesthetic of this track and also what gives it that bit of garage rock overdrive as well.
I seriously can't get over the absolutely perfect tone of the bass guitar and the actual lines that it's doing too because when a person to those choruses and even just beforehand it does these little fun walks if you will, and it just adds so much depth and character to the track itself.
When it hits those choruses, it becomes sort of grungy, and it does remind me of those radio-friendly but still somewhat underground alternative rock groups of the 90s. I love this because it gives me bouts of nostalgia.
It also lets you know the kinds of influences these guys have, and how those bands played out in how their sound ended up.
Those courses are explosive and by the second time around you're just kind of waiting for it and then when it comes in, it's just so satisfying.
The vocals are awesome for a few reasons. Not only is the singer sort of belting out but he's doing it with a certain swagger, holding out notes and bending them into place like a guitar with a whammy bar.
They are also performed with a great energy, and this is important because with bands like this we know how it goes. Sometimes the band themselves are amazing and the vocals kind of bring it down a bit or just don't match them energy-wise. But here, everything works out incredibly well to the point where it feels like everyone in the band is feeding off each other energy-wise the entire time.
It makes me wonder if this song was recorded live on the floor.
Of course, I wouldn't know if that was true or not but either way listening to it definitely makes you want to see them perform this live in your face because if you can capture an energy like that on record and have it come through so robust and full-bodied, then seeing them live must be awesome.
This track hit in a way of rock subgenres and the dynamic balance of how everything came into play was brilliant but also just natural and forward moving.
This seems like the type of band that's been playing together for years and know exactly how to make something click in terms of songwriting.
I wonder if the bass player came up with the riff first and then brought it to the band.
Either way, this was a seriously killer single that really showcased this band's ability to churn out a track that had attitude, character, energy, and just an amazing tone that's driving but catchy and really pulls you in from the very beginning.
Don't take my word for it though. Take a listen to this track and don't be afraid to turn it up because it sounds even better that way.
