A new single release from Eli Utne delivers a refreshing approach and breed of honesty that is given in the form of an array of songwriting styles from classic folk and singer-songwriter to a jazz undertone indie pop, and even classic rock at times but it all has a sort of underlying message to it and the songs have a way of connecting to each other so, it's very easy to end up getting engulfed in this whole record.
The Uncertain Seas is a way for Eli to express certain inner thoughts and to an extent you feel almost like some of these songs were even cathartic for the artist to write and release and this is mostly because they're so honest and at times very personal.
This record is more of an experience than an album and it does come with these little interludes introductions and outros that all speak of them underlying message I mentioned earlier and I'm not going to just give that up right here right now, but I'm going to let you listen to the record to see if you can really pick up on it.
This is one of those albums that you listen to as a whole from beginning to end because if you don't then you're going to miss out on certain parts of importance but mostly, if you listen to only one or two songs from this record, you're not getting anywhere near the full spectrum of what it has to offer.
Those Jazzy sort of undertones and progressions in the guitar worker outstanding and the vocals have an enormous range that you don't get to hear right off the bat but subtly expanse and the whole album has this immersive feel to it so it's a great escape.
It does have the ability to pull you away from your surroundings and put you in a different place altogether and at times it feels like you're listening to someone's memories which is really incredible and also super connective.
Listening to this album actually made certain memories of my own pop into my head and that's because songs can be very descriptive, and a lot of this music has a vast undertone which feels expansive and almost cinematic at times.
He performs his vocals with passion but focuses a lot on The Melodies and where he could go with them, and he does indeed go to great places with the Melodies In the songs and at times the verses have more catchiness to them than the choruses do.
This was an alluring record that has a way of swimming around in the air that surrounds you and when you finish listening to the album you have to sort of reacclimate yourself back to reality again which I find completely refreshing.
The oceanic and fluid theme to this record is sort of imprinted in you after you listen to it and I really love the samples that are used and the messages that they talk about throughout the record and how he brings them in in various places to ground you again before another batch of songs come through.
This whole thing was incredibly well thought out with a lot of attention to detail right down to the track listing itself of course and although it's got all that involved, it never loses that character or personality that it starts with in the first place and that may be the most important aspect of the entire thing.
It's been a long time since I've listened to a record that makes you feel like it was written for you in a certain way and this album certainly pulls that off.
Definitely take a deep dive into this one when you get a chance and see how it affects you.
