"Lace is extremely important to us as it defines our future. It tells our friends, family, our city, and eventually a lot more, that we are serious about this. That our song writing and talent is something special. That our dreams of being world-touring rockstars is not some high school kids' fairytale but a true goal and possibility. Lace comes from the creativity of two teenagers with a love of good music, who wear eyeliner, listen to too much radiohead and want to be rockstars...and have no shame of it.
Lace comes from the need of new, refreshing music, our rock idols influencing us into an authentic yet nostalgic sound that begs the emotion out of our listener. Lace is just the beginning." - Dystoria
Two Portland, Oregon 18 year olds, Chase Kochis and Miles Reed, make up Dystoria. They started creating music together in the summer of 2022 when they were just 16 years old and instantly decided they would be a band. Their first song, Inda, was written during their first jam, and it is now a staple of Dystoria’s beautiful atmospheric rock sound and raw energy. Throughout their highschool junior year they continued writing songs after Inda, eventually leading to enough tracks to start recording their debut album, Lace.
Dystoria finished the album in October of 2023, but their recording and mixing skills did not match that of their songwriting. Scrapping everything but the vocals and synths, Dystoria re-recorded the album at a studio in December of 2023 to achieve the professional sound they wanted. Lace was finally released in March of 2024, and quickly has gained outstanding feedback.
Dystoria’s unique layers of guitars, synths, and harmonies create a very mature sound, often compared to the likeness of Deftones and Radiohead. Few would guess this band is just two teenagers. Dystoria is constantly writing more music and growing their fan base with local shows around Portland. Both members are pursuing the band full time instead and are committed to a future in rock music.
