A new release from Annette Joy hits a topic that is very current and very intense as she displays a passionate performance meant to send a message so that people feel the impact of what's going on in the world right now and it's done with a lush and almost cinematic backbone but with this robust character and this is something that pulls you into the song.
"Homes Don't Work With Bombs" is a track that was created to build awareness and it works because a lot of it is from the point of view of the victims, and this is a really impactful approach because not only is it a unique in its format, but as Annette is that character in the song, it builds that intensity and lets the song come through with any mess and almost heartbreaking feel.
Throughout the track you have these vast and open guitars that have a certain tonality and twang to them, vocals that come through riddled with that character attached to it and passionately performed with authenticity behind it.
You also have this whistle performed by Kane O'Rourke throughout the song, and this is part of what gives it that fast and cinematic backbone along with all these beautiful backing vocals that Annette performs which also give the song a certain kind of haunt.
The whole thing comes together and builds into an atmosphere that can pull you away from your surroundings and put you in this other place altogether and I think the message of this song comes across well because we should all be paying a little bit more attention not only to Palestine, but to the kind of war that's going on in the world.
There are too many of us that just turn away from these things because they're not happening to us directly and that in a way, is a little bit of a shame.
I'm not saying we all do this of course and I'm also not saying that just because we don't do anything directly about it that it does not frustrate us or make us feel for the pain of others, but there are a lot of people that ignore it and others that just don't pay any attention.
The thing is, we all share this world and if enough of us get the message to become aware of what's going on in it, then maybe we can make it a better place with less pain and less suffering.
Annette did an amazing job of displaying all of this in her song and it's done in such a theatrical and unique way that the message comes across crystal clear.
This beautifully performed and intense single was written and released by Annette Joy to help raise awareness and help support funds for displaced Palestinian children and people.
I think we need more artists like a net to be spreading important messages like this because for her, this is personal.
