An Interview with Kayn Falcon

ree

If you're not quite familiar with the music of Kayn Falcon, then now is a great time to get introduced, as the producer and artist just released a new track called "Automatic", which certainly showcases and ability to create vibrant textures and tones but still keep a blend of color, edginess, and drive.

The track wastes very little time coming right in with bendy and heavy-handed synthesizers that give off a melodic approach and have a tasteful feel, bringing the song to a blend of pop, electronic, and dance.

This is a song that hits you with a hook pretty quickly.

The producer is brilliant at delivering a great arrangement that gets you hooked right from the beginning musically, and then grabs you with a hook not long after.

You can attribute this to smart songwriting, but also a natural knack for producing songs that feel robust and slightly invasive, but also pop-coated and have a sort of shimmer to them.

This single does shine, bringing to mind elements of what I would consider to be bubblegum pop, but also blends vintage tonalities in with it.

With this song alone, you can hear some of the many influences it encompasses and how they are brought together to create something that feels semi-nostalgic or old school, but has a really refreshing and bright feel to it.

The track is completely energized and has a wonderful way of growing as it plays on, but again, doesn't waste a lot of time getting straight to the point.

This is a song that you can sing along with from the first time you hear it.

I love a track that's built with layers of sonic texture, the way this one is. There are so many layers of synths and keys, driving beats and boisterous vocals that come through at once, providing a really sort of intense atmosphere but a bubbly one at the same time.

You can hear a slightly cinematic and vast undertone throughout the entire thing. There are certain elements to the song tonally that are dipped in a reverb-like effect, so that it adds a bit of depth and layers to the soundscape of it all.

It certainly feels like a lot is going on at certain points, but that's something that I quite enjoyed because it is again, combining these different elements of pop and electronic drive so that you have something big and vivacious.

I feel like the energy across the track is damn near perfect. The vibrancy of everything shines, and the whole thing showcases an artist who absolutely knows how to build a song so that you get pulled into it.

Kayn Falcon utilizes what's called synesthesia, which is the ability to see sound in color. In other words, when he hears sounds, he's able to see colors to go along with them. So, for Kayn, writing music is like painting or drawing. It brings together multiple art forms so that he can create a unique fashion, and I think this really works well for him because the music is robust and indeed, colorful.

This single follows another previously released earlier this year called "Substance", which sort of follows suit but also takes a different approach.

This track is a little bit more driving, edgy, and boasts more of a classic dance pop approach and aesthetic.

It still does an amazing job of giving off some of the essence of what the artist can produce as a whole.

I feel like if you like one of these tracks, you're going to like the other one as well, so you should most certainly listen to both.

As far as we can tell, these singles are leading up to an album release, and if there are more songs like these on it, I certainly can't wait to hear it.

Upon listening to these songs, I absolutely had to interview with the artist and producer just to find out where this stuff comes from and dip into what may be coming up next.

So, while you listen to these two songs, have a read through of our interview with Kayn below.

RAG: Hello Kayn! Let's talk a bit about Automatic first! Where did this single come from?

  • Sonically,  the song is reminiscent of the 2010’s. I wanted to make a single that was in your face and very POP. Thematically the song is about living your life on autopilot, and not being aware of your surroundings. The meaning is however, kinda hidden in the lyrics, you really have to disect  the song to understand it’s core meaning.

RAG: Can you give us some of your biggest musical influences?

  • For sure Madonna, I have an admiration for people who tend to push the status quo, for those who push the limit while being unapologetically themselves.

RAG: Are you performing live shows right now in support of the release?

  • I’m performing, mostly online. Like digital concerts on lives, I have done in person performances but still building those connections haha.

RAG: You've come such a long way as an artist! What advice would you have for others out there trying to get heard?

  • You have to be unapologetically yourself. Yes, I know it sounds corny, but it really holds truth and power. It’s the only way to cut through the ocean of noise, you have to be your most authentic self and in order to do that you must know yourself first.

RAG: Now that this release is out, what's next for you?

  • A lot of promotion haha, currently working on the next single and concept album! As well as my TikToks, gotta work on the quality of the videos

RAG: What would you say is your absolute favorite aspect of doing what you do?

  • The world I create in my head, each done if a story, its own mini level! I like to create a visual sonic world for each song and album, It just takes some time for it all to come together.

RAG: Who's in your headphones right now?

  • Right now, I’m listening to “Times like these” and “Fame is a Gun” by Addison Rae, I like the aura these songs have, also really wanted to give Addison a shot, very good!

RAG: What would you say people can expect from this single?

  • From automatic, they can expect a very LOUD song, very upbeat. The song doesn’t take itself too serious, at face value it’s just an ordinary song, it’s only when you dig deeper in the song that you find its deeper hidden meaning.
