An amazing single release from Zac Blackwell delivers a passionate and soulful vocal performance that's turned into an impactful and vast rock single that bears elements of everything from gypsy rock to a heartfelt indie rock soundscape and is clearly packed with character and heart right from the get-go.
"Ash to Ash" has something about it that sort of moves you in a way and I think it's that vocal performance because not only does it have that power behind it, but it's got an incredible hook as well and that hook is what ends up just floating around in your brain for days after the song has ended.
The only way to satiate something like that is to listen to the song again and to me, that's just smart songwriting but I think it comes to him naturally.
One of the biggest things about this track is its energy and how that energy is transferable from the guitars to the vocals and from the song to the listener because that aspect of it is incredibly infectious and it's one of the most impactful attributes of the song.
Every once in a while, you hear a song that has something almost fantastical about it. Something that makes you know that it came from a place of realness which makes the song authentic and very genuine.
This is a perfect example of one of those songs and it's clearly done by someone who has a pure love for the craft because that is evident with every note played.
The track really has a way of taking you to a different place and letting you step away from your own reality for a few minutes and you can't help but feel the emotional drive behind the song in the first place.
What's more, is that this track has such a sort of gracefulness to it in a way, which is definitely something you don't come across often so when you do it almost puts it in a certain class.
I love music that you can feel something from and when you get that you pay attention to it and it draws you in which is exactly what this song does.
There's also a certain charm to it because the song has a lot of character and the artist himself has a lot of character so that's bleeding through into the song and probably does on most or even all of his tracks.
This is likely a staple part of his sound and is something that you kind of fall right into.
All the impact and soulfulness of this track make it cinematic in its own right and the song goes from these calm to more explosive levels of intensity so it has this feeling of being alive and breathing.
These are all very unique elements of a song like this because you normally would get that from classical music for example.
Upon diving into this single we decided to take a look at some of the artist's back catalog and there's definitely a lot more where this came from including a live version of "Ash to Ash" at Deadbeat Studio in Nashville which is a must-hear as well.
I love this artist and cannot wait for what's next.
Giving this a 9 out of 10.
