A brand-new single release from TeleZura it's a range of heavy rock undertones with an approach that blends indie rock with, grunge, classic rock, pop alternative rock, and much more all rolled into one release that gives off a vast undertone and an anthemic chorus that comes with a sort of robust character that you end up holding onto right from the get-go.
"Pretty In Black" has a way of feeling strangely welcoming and I think that's because the song is actually slightly personal, and the lyrics can be pretty descriptive and detailed in certain ways so you can get an idea of where they're coming from with the track lyrically but the way that the song is delivered has an outstanding sort of drive to it.
The song explodes into bigger choruses and settles down a little bit more for the verses, so it's got a very alive and breathing arrangement to it, and I think that's brilliant for a song like this.
I do love this sort of 90s grunge approach that you hear on the track but again, it also blends into these other rock genres as well and it is all done with a sort of youthful cry out.
The guitar tone is damn near perfect for a track like this one because it's not super over the top, but it does hit hard exactly where it needs to, giving the track that boost of edginess and the way that the whole thing is performed makes you feel like you just watched a live performance.
It feels almost like the songs were recorded live on the floor and the players involved were just feeding off of each other's energy the entire time.
This also just gives the track such an added drive and helps it push the envelope right to where it needs to be.
You can hear that emotional drive and that vastness in the song, especially in terms of the progression changes and the notes that are held out during those choruses vocally.
Everything feels kind of intense during those sections and that's how you know it came from someplace real and this also gives it an almost cinematic feel at times too.
All kinds of cool backing vocals happen throughout the track as well that almost feel Haunting in a way, but I think that goes right with the aesthetic of what the track is doing.
There's an element of this song that's supposed to feel haunting and it accomplishes that pretty damn well.
I love the fact that this is a blend of color and edginess, darkness and character, and how it comes through packing a punch that leaves a mark so that the song becomes very memorable.
You want to sing along during some of those choruses just the second time around and those are the kinds of things that stick in your head for hours or even days after the song has ended.
The only way to satiate that is to go and listen to the song again which I think is just smart songwriting.
This is a song done by a group of people who have a real love for what they're doing. I don't just mean playing instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together that have some depth to them that they can put out into the world.
You can rock out to this song very well, but you can also read into it and peel back the layers.
I find that a little bit more alluring because this gives you the sense that these guys write music that has fewer boundaries than what you may be used to, and I think that's important these days.
This was a killer single and I will most certainly be paying a lot more attention to TeleZura after hearing it.
Check this track out and don't be afraid to turn it up.
