If you guys haven't heard the latest single from Yellow No. 5, then this is definitely your reason to go check it out. The track is one of the better love and breakup songs that I've heard in quite some time, and it's because the song really isn't coming from an angry place after a breakup.
It's got a different perspective and focuses more on moving on or sort of getting closure after it's all over.
It's not a happy song, per se. But it definitely isn't the usual breakup Song, in terms of being pissy about everything that went down, and where you're at now.
We can definitely hear loads of pop-punk just flowing throughout the veins of this track, along with some great elements of alternative rock, bringing out a little bit of a harder edge at times, and straightforward pop rock as well.
It's got a boisterous chorus that really feels memorable. I think the chorus is the most pop-punk aspect of the track in general, and it really hits hard, in terms of melody, drive, and just that big, anthemic feel.
You can still hear the love in the track, and I love the way the vocals are performed because they're so big and in your face.
I think part of what makes the song feel so massive is the effects that are on those vocals. There's a bit of reverb on the lead singer's voice, and it sort of deepens the song a little bit and makes them come through a bit more powerfully as well.
One of my favorite parts about this whole thing is the guitar riffs that go in between the chorus sections. Those also seriously beckon some classic pop-punk approaches and give me the warm and fuzzies in terms of feeling a little bit nostalgic about everything.
The whole thing is influenced by a bunch of different genres, but definitely comes through with a particular kind of pop-punk brightness that you can't turn away from.
You also get bits of grunge influence throughout the track, which also adds to that sort of heavy edge that the song puts out there.
It's definitely unique in its lyrical approach, especially because it delves a little into the balance of a relationship, how each person feels at certain points in time, and how each one is affected by the other.
I definitely found the music video to be quite fun as well. It features the guys rocking out in a car piled junkyard, standing atop heaps of metal, walking through the dirt paths between the cars, and watching it gave me an idea for the energy these guys can deliver.
All in all, the single is very melodically approached. It's heavy-handed, it hits hard, but its drive is in the melodies, the choruses, the hooks, those hooks coming from both guitars and vocals at times.
There's a lot of catchiness bouncing around, and that pop overtone is always there.
I would definitely check this out by watching the video first, because there's something about it that reminds me of classic 90s videos.
The song is called "Be Mine", and if you really love that classic pop-punk sort of sound, then this is not a song you want to miss.
Also, the guys are going on a tour through March and April with locations varying from Las Vegas to Hollywood, Texas, Colorado, and more.
We're going to put those dates below in case you are in the area and want to catch a show.
I can definitely tell these guys are going to be awesome as a live band. The energy is portrayed really well on the record itself.
So, check the song out and see if you're around when they're playing a show.
Whatever you do, don't miss this single.
