One of the latest album releases from Breath of Illusions touches on a wide variety of soundscapes that breed cinematic backbone and feature some stellar guitar work from start to finish along with a lot of character and color that come together to build an atmosphere you don't want to leave.
The Awakening is a huge record that rocks out in all the places needs to, but it does that with a persona that you end up getting attached to very quickly and the songs come through almost like chapters of a book as they tell these musical stories and take you on these little musical journeys as well.
This is a very guitar-focused record and the performance across the board is incredible from harmonies to melodies, solo work, and a lot of intricacies that feel like they are played with soul and passion, but the strong points aren't even really only there, they're actually in the songwriting itself as well.
The changes, progressions, arrangements, and compositions of these pieces of work are all really well thought out so that the whole record has a forward-moving flow and something like that isn't an easy thing to accomplish unless you put a lot of work into it.
The songs range from that cinematic and almost theatrical feel to a harder rock that sounds like you could have been listening to on rock radio stations in any major city for years now, but it's got this particular drive to it that you end up getting caught up in.
By the time you get halfway through the record you know a little bit more about what to expect and when a song starts and comes in with that riff you are waiting for that lead guitar melody to take you away to a different place.
This is an important aspect to talk about as well because this record is a really impressive form of escapism and lets you just jump into a different world so that you can forget about your reality for a while and that feels great no matter who you are.
The musicianship on this release is intense and really high level but it's a lot of fun so you can tell that the songwriter and performer behind all this had a great time laying these tracks down.
Everything is so colorful and so bright a lot of time even when it goes into all kinds of different melodies.
On top of all that, there are a ton of hooks across the board, and a lot of those stick with you for long after the records over.
I'm definitely digging a lot of these lush guitar harmonies that you hear because those are super tasteful as they're not constant, but they pop in here and there and when you hear them you kind of get taken back a little bit.
These are the kinds of things that add to the production of this release along with the whole full band feel drums and all.
The craziest thing about this whole project is that it's helmed by one man named Juan Alvarado who I'm pretty sure is responsible for everything you'll hear on this record.
As a composer, you can hear his orchestrated arrangement style on some of these tracks and it must be really fun to pull that stuff off on guitar especially.
This was a full-bodied and robust record with tons to latch onto and I would suggest listening to this one with headphones.
For people who love good rock music with great guitar work, this is for you but for guitar players it's an absolute must hear.
