A brutal and new single release from Until 9 delivers ferocious riffs and a high-impact attitude with a fast-paced set of vocals and this vast heavy soundscape that creates such a ruckus that you get caught up in it incredibly quickly.
"Spew" doesn't let up for even one second and comes at you like a bat out of hell with blistering guitar tones and pitch harmonic riffs, but it also gives you this larger backbone with melodic undertones and really outstanding and surprising power.
A lot of this power comes from the drumming as well which is just destructive from the get-go and is delivered with this sort of 90s alternative rock and metal vibe but is also super tight but incredibly driving and alive, so it gives the songs this added layer of vibrancy.
Vocally, this track is booming the entire time as the vocals scream with such an energy that it somehow matches the bombastic feel and energy of the band themselves.
The thing that really gets me about this is the song arrangement and how the vocals and the guitar and band work bounce in between each other rhythmically so that you have such an impactful and fiery sound.
It's the way the kick drum and the guitars bounce between how the vocals sound rhythmically and that's something that you have to think about as a band.
It's things like this that make me wonder about how bands like this build their songs.
Whether or not the band gets together and has the riffs and the ideas and then the vocalist comes in and hits them with that or it's the other way around.
Either way this turned out outstanding and really hits like a blitzkrieg where you just have to start the song right over again once it's ended because you honestly might not even catch every single thing that's going on the first time around.
There are musical layers here especially guitar-wise and vocally that all meld into each other and once again you'll have this hardcore or grindcore drudging riff that's deep and heavy and palm muted and another time you'll have this big vast melodic guitar section, and the vocals will become melodic along with it.
It's a very inventive track in terms of metal but it also gives you this feel of early to mid-2000s underground metal bands that never got enough credit, and these guys somehow nailed that aesthetic well.
This track is one for the books and it made me want to find out more about Until 9 so I had to listen to some of their other singles, and it was really interesting to me to hear some of the older songs because they're also really good but they're a bit different than this one is so for me, it was fun to hear their sort of evolution as a band musically.
The band has been pumping songs out since 2022 on Spotify release-wise and there's a little bit of a different side that you hear of the band with each track dropped.
"Spew" sounds like a step in the right direction as it just feels like the forward movement of the band sound and it is killer.
Check this one out and if you like it check out their past releases as well because they're well worth your time also.
This is for those 90s metalheads out there like me.
Awesome single.
