The new record from Broken Jaw comes through with a pretty hard-hitting approach that blends death, blackened, thrash, and speed metal all together to design and create something that hits with a fiery underbelly and a closed-fisted tonality.
No-OnE cArEs! is a record that doesn't really let up, especially in terms of raw, blistering energy, and that's one of its best attributes.
When you listen to this record in full, from start to finish, you get the idea that seeing them at a live show would be something of a face-melting experience, and that's what I would love and expect from a band like this.
The drumming on this record is unbelievable. Absolutely intense, blurring high speeds, thrashing, and pounding the entire time. The drummer for this band knows no bounce and wanted to deliver something that pushed boundaries as far as humanly possible, creating something that, at times, feels like an earthquake of kick drums rambunctiously clattering and building waves of thrashing intensity.
The rest of the band absolutely follows suit.
Take a song like "Caviar & Cigarettes", for example. This track wastes very little time coming in and giving you that destructive and thrashing approach, then opens up into elements of grunge, punk rock, grindcore, and more with awesome riffs and brutal vocals that sure enough carry that unbelievable fierceness with them.
Now, this is a record that definitely brings in a slew of influences across the board. This is one of the other reasons to listen to the entire record. There are more than a few surprises around its corners, and all of them hit Super hard.
"Pineapple Pizza" delivers more of a new metal crossed with punk crossed with 90s alternative rock and still carries with it these deepening riffs and smashing drums, robust vocals, and more.
Meanwhile, tracks like "One Ply Roll" come in with an explosive and undeniable thrashing death metal aesthetic.
This is an album that, when listened to from start to finish all the way through, in one shot, leaves its mark.
There are a few tracks that really stand out, like some of the ones I have already mentioned, but to listen to this record in full is quite an experience.
You end up really getting addicted to this intense energy that's given off and wonder if they can pull that kind of energy off in a live performance setting.
A lot of death or blackened metal bands certainly do so, I'm sure they can't, but these guys have a little more flavor to them. They're a bit more outlandish, sort of wild, unexpected, and outside the box in more than a few ways.
One of my favorite tracks on this entire release is one called "Milk Guns Honey", which seamlessly blends those new metal, heavy, thrashing, and death metal approaches together with these pounding riffs that are probably drop B or even drop C in tuning so that you have that low rumble, but it's also kind of catchy and almost
This is the kind of track that showcases certain other sides of the band's performances and songwriting.
Of course, the track also incorporates the speed and black and metal approaches as well, but I love how they bring in some of that fatter new metal style soundscapes as well.
This band displays a raw power that is rarely seen these days. That raw power is infused with smart songwriting, youthful drive, and a bit of inventive thinking.
All of this creates something impactful, memorable, and endlessly fun, which this record absolutely is.
If you are into any of these forms of metal, then you do not want to miss this record because it's got something for everyone under that heavy metal umbrella.
Don't just take my word for it, though, turn this on, turn this up, and get ready to get thrashed.
Broken Jaw has arrived.
