A new release from Ohemaah comes through with a vast undertone that comes from beats and vocals that are wet with reverb and this gives the song such a smooth and almost cinematic backbone, but it also blends in a lot of character, and I think that it comes from this unique breed of honesty that the song delivers, and you end up really latching on to this the most.
"Runnin'" certainly feels like it comes from someplace real, and this gives the song such an authenticity but musically, it has a way of sort of engulfing you and in the end, you end up getting washed away with everything because the song has a wonderful way of building an intensity and the longer you listen the bigger it feels.
I absolutely adore some of the backing vocals on this track because they're so distanced and have a way of giving this almost dreamlike effect to the song as they float through the ether of the track.
This song has a certain kind of energy to it that lets it sort of swim around in the air that surrounds you and because of that you get pulled away from your surroundings and putting this different place for a little chunk of time, so the song ends up being like an escape for a moment in time and this is something that I feel like is a gift musically.
Her vocals are powerful but in this very soft and subtle way and at times she uses her voice as an additional instrument layering on more melody and those melodies give hooks that end up bouncing around in your head for hours or even days after the song has ended.
The only way to satiate something like that is to go and listen to the song again and I think that's smart songwriting.
With the production of this track gives it a beautiful polish and Sheen but the rhythm also has a little bit of a flare to it so that you can definitely dance to it even though it's so laid back.
I could sort of feel how she's in her zone at the studio recording and writing her songs with no interruptions. It's like her happy place and because of that she releases songs that have fewer boundaries than you might be used to which I think is a beautiful thing.
She's able to capture such a unique energy with this track and upon listening to it I took a little deep dive into some of her back catalog.
Upon doing that, I came across and outstanding array of releases that all show a little bit of a different side of the artist, and they begin in 2013 with a full-length album and go on through singles another full-length album, and more.
Ohemaah is someone that's been at it for a really long time and you can hear that in this single alone, but I would definitely suggest that if you dig this track, which I'm sure you will, that you go and listen to some of her other releases because I find it very interesting and intriguing to listen to the evolution of an artist when I find one that I really like.
This was an incredibly fun experience, and she certainly didn't let me down in any way whatsoever in terms of outstanding musicianship, performances, and songwriting.
A lot of her songs do seem to come from real places and that gives her personality so with a lot of her music she gives pieces of herself, and this is the kind of thing that I think people look for when they find an artist.
The songs are relatable, but you know they aren't written just for you even though they can feel that way.
Ohemaah is an absolutely perfect example of just that.
Definitely have a listen to this track when you can, and I would suggest doing so with headphones on so you could really soak in all the things that are happening throughout the song both far and close.
