The Carousel

The Carousel grabs your attention from the beginning and does not let go. With rich layered vocals, a thunderous rhythm section, driving guitars, and a lush string section, this indie-rock debut has something for every listener. Fans of early 2000s indie and punk rock will find a home here, as will listeners who want a bit more complexity and classical influence in their music. The EP was recorded at Golden Bear Records with Bryan Vanderpool in Des Moines, Iowa. Each track has its own place on the record. “Brave Enough” is a bold and up front opener. “Comes and Goes” keeps the energy alive while also introducing a much more prominent string section than the previous song. As the song winds down, it gives way to the reflective yet upbeat “Paths”. From there, nostalgia takes over as sweeping strings and lyrics about past friendships that have faded away dominate “Old Friend”. Finally, the record ends with “Closer”, a near seven-minute track that brings all of the elements of The Carousel’s unique indie-rock sound. The Carousel is Nathan Thiessen, Cory Stark, Benjamin Barker, Caleb Weatherby, and Nick Stifel.
