Sam Zalta
Sam Zalta is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose music pairs a hazy, immersive atmosphere with an instinct for melodies that linger long after the song ends. Pulling from dream pop, shoegaze, indie pop, and the grand melodic traditions of artists like The Beach Boys, Spiritualized, Big Star, and Swans, Zalta builds songs that can feel soothing on the surface even as something stranger and more unsettled moves underneath. That tension carries into his live performances, which blur the line between concert and performance art and have helped Zalta build a dedicated word-of-mouth following through underground venues and touring. He has also spent the past decade as a live member of Bambara, performing and touring alongside artists including Foo Fighters, IDLES, Gilla Band, METZ, and Algiers. His solo work, however, occupies a world entirely his own, one increasingly shaped by elaborate storytelling, recurring characters, dreams, devotion, and the uneasy space where beauty and pain meet. Zalta has been writing and recording music since his teens, releasing Paraiso Terrenal (2015), o (2017), It All Ends The Same (2019), and Memento Mori (2023). His latest work finds him pushing further into orchestration, narrative, and world-building while holding onto the melodies at the center of everything he makes.
