A new single from Lucas Lawson delivers a very honest and descriptive approach that gives it a lot of character and personality which is something that has a particular way of getting you engulfed within the song itself along with the rustic Americana tonality of everything.
"Up and Leave" is the song that feels like it was hard to release because there's so much honesty in it and when you listen to it you can hear a lot of the description and the lyrics that had to have been birthed from inner thought and so, when you hear the song the first time you feel like this must have been cathartic for Lucas to actually write and release but, for the listener it can be pretty relatable.
Of course, I'm not going to give away everything that the song is about but it's very personal and when you listen to it certain memories of your own might pop into your head like it did for me and that is very connective musically.
This is indeed a southern-toned folk and Americana track riddled with beautiful instrumentation throughout including violin and acoustic guitar but it's the vocals that reach out and grab it you because they are emotionally driven, and you can tell that the song certainly is authentic and its premise and where it came from.
The vocal performance throughout the track has a certain level of heart to it and this in turn, does indeed build on the personality and character that the song boasts as I mentioned earlier.
To me, it came through cinematic like you can see it in a scene of a film for example.
I think this is because of the emotional drive that the song has and how open it felt so all that emotion came through with strength.
This is very lush and full body because of all this great acoustic instrumentation that's happening throughout the track, and this gave it depth and a certain kind of vastness in its undertone.
There's definitely a little bit of a solid or dark side to the song, especially lyrically but the music and progressions also showcase that as well.
This is beautiful because that's what real art is about. It's about just being honest whether it's something that is a struggle and is difficult to talk or sing about or it's very positive.
Either way this song gives you something very real to hold on to and the music of it is strangely peaceful in a way.
There's also this feeling that it gives off like it was all recorded live right there on the spot. It's almost as if everyone involved was feeding off of each other's energies the whole time and when you listen to the song you feel like you just sat and watched a live performance.
No matter how the song was actually recorded, I love that it gives me this vibe because that to me is an experience more than just listening to a song.
All in all, this is a song about change to an extent. Change is something that none of us can avoid because it's a constant in life but even though a lot of us feel the struggle or inner thoughts of change, not a lot of us can articulate them into words let alone words and music so hearing a song like this lets us feel like we're not alone in certain kinds of thoughts.
This is connective and beautiful.
This track certainly hit me a certain way and I feel like if you listen to it with headphones on it might hit you the same. Either way, I would suggest you listen to this track and see how it does affect you.
A genuine single from Lucas Lawson.
