Seasoned conductor Jeannine Wagar has had plenty of experience working with physical performers and instruments for a long time and with her latest release she steps out of that atmosphere and into a new one where she has put together a record utilizing a virtual orchestra on her own and in doing so, she has created something boundless and freeing.
The Into the Night album displays a range of expertly arranged and composed pieces of music that each deep into different moods, cinematic aesthetics, and in almost ethereal flow.
The record ranges in unique and well-rounded digital instrumentation she's utilizing to create soundscapes that are not only alluring but all their own.
With each track, she posed you further into her world and her mind's creations, but each song also delivers a little piece of herself.
A lot of these pieces of music have beautiful ambient undertones, and they all derive from being able to put together orchestrated pieces of music, but now being a little bit more boundless with it all.
You can hear how free she is having this new element of control and being able to build on the sounds that she wants texturally and experiment with those tones more than she would normally be able to.
By doing this, she has built something that feels alive and breathing.
Most of these songs blend that digital element with the feel and texture of natural instrumentation and full orchestrations.
She's able to pull this together because she knows tones and can layer and build upon each sound as she sees fit.
The songs come through with heavy-handed emotion a lot of the time, and the beauty of music like this in general is that although they do set the mood and the tone, it lets your mind sort of flow free and go where it may.
Some of these songs may trigger memories to pop up in your head, while others just invoke certain kinds of emotion.
You can tell that a lot of this stuff is coming from her inner self. There is a lot of emotion in these songs and their compositions in general, and when they hit your ears, you can feel certain intensities come and go in waves.
Some tracks feel more peaceful than others. Some songs have different approaches with pluckier instrumentation, while others feel more like bowed instruments, creating that thick and stretched orchestral string feel.
It's amazing how she's able to put all this stuff together, and you can tell that she honestly must have had a great time experimenting and writing these pieces.
They're all coming from someplace real, and she's able to express herself in a very unique manner by putting this record together.
Songs like "Lament" feel incredibly authentic and maybe even cathartic.
The album as a whole gives you a sense of vulnerability in a strange way but it's something that I attached myself to while listening.
It's not so much about how she put it together but how much of that feeling and emotion she put into the songs and made sure that, however she created them, they came to fruition as close to the idea in her head in the first place.
Having years of experience as a professional conductor is something that she certainly used to her advantage while creating the sounds, but I feel like this was a step in a new direction for her, and you get the sense that she certainly enjoyed delving deep into the process.
I certainly hope to hear more pieces of music like this one from Jeannine soon, as I think this is something special.
The way she created these pieces utilizing those acoustic and stringed instruments, along with certain sounds that lean more towards a digital sensation, was incredible, and again, textually layered and emotionally intense, and lush.
Listening to this record in full is the only way to go. Each song tells a bit of a story, and when you listen to the entire record from start to finish, it is quite a journey.
This is important because it's a journey she's inviting you on. Again, these pieces are coming from parts of herself and you really feel that heavy-handedly when you listen to the record.
Listen to this with headphones on so that you can really soak in all of these beautiful layers and all of that thick emotion that comes from most of these tracks.
I'm sure you will enjoy this. It will take you away from wherever you are and whatever you're doing and put you in her world for a certain amount of time.
Although that is what I get from it, remember that these songs will be connected, and each listener will take it in a little differently. Each person who listens to this record will picture different things, think of different things, and feel different Sensations.
The important part is to take that journey and see where the music actually takes you.
