A fresh new single from James Artissen delivers a classic hip-hop flow with a cinematic backbone and a super catchy chorus that breeds in an R&B soundscape within a heavy-handed set of raps, delivering brilliant lyrical phrasing, loads of personality, and pretty descriptive approaches.

"Down 4 Whatever" has a way of hitting hard as it blends a bit of street rap with radio friendliness and isn't afraid to throw in that smooth R&B hook, which blends perfectly with the rest of the song.

A lot about this track makes it quite memorable, but for the most part, it's the way the lyrics unfold and how it is actually a little bit personal in a sense.

This is a track about finding the right kind of person and all the aspects that come with them.

James doesn't hold much back in terms of what he wants to say, and he does it with a lot of swagger, along with the understanding and ability to keep things bouncing and catchy.

This track has a great rhythm to it, and you will bounce along with it, but that chorus is really something that sticks with you for hours after the song has ended.

Throughout the track, you get a lot of that smooth R&B flow, and it has such a great texture to the song that already has a lot of musical layers.

It's got a heavy-handed kind of classic hip-hop beat, loads of synths and keys that fill the space and make the song feel totally lush and full-bodied, and the vocals add that element of personality and character to the song, not just because of the lyrics, but also the way they are performed.

This is a truck that's a combination of a little greediness or dirtiness, along with some more personal undertone. I like this combination because it showcases hints of vulnerability but doesn't really go over the top.

But there's this great vocal effect throughout a lot of this track for the singing sections, and it's not auto-tune exactly, but it feels almost like it. The singing is silky, and the melodies that are performed, even through one of the verses, are outstanding.

You can tell this was a lot of fun to track. You can feel that energy right from the beginning of the song because the rapping is sort of aggressive and right in your face.

The rest of the track follows suit with this great energy but takes it in a bit of a different direction.

I like this a lot simply because it showcases a slew of influences that come into play.

James produces and writes the music, which is already saying a lot because this track has such a pristine production, combining that heavy-handed beat with flowing synths and slightly edgy undertones, but a vastness as well that adds an atmosphere and space to the song.

He's also the main vocalist and does all that great R&B singing throughout the track.

So you can see that the artist had a bit of a vision in his head and because he does so much in terms of the creation process, hopefully that Vision came to fruition as close to the way it was when he thought of it.

I love an artist with a vision like this. You can tell this just wasn't playing around. There was a lot of attention to detail in terms of the production, arrangement, and how he wanted someone in there to lay down rapping for the first chunk of the song so that it had a certain kind of feel to it to begin with.

BIGG BAGGZ does the rapping here and absolutely crushes it because right from the start of the song again, you're getting this massive energy.

The way the rapping hits with the flow of the production and music is brilliant, and that's part of what pulls you into the song in the first place.

This was such a great combination of styles, approaches, and a unique way of bending genres, but not going over the top with it.

The whole thing had a unique flow to it and created this outstanding aesthetic that felt like a combination of hip hop, rap, late-night club, R&B, and soul.

I think that combination is what makes it so memorable.

I can't stress enough how the energy levels of this track sort of fluctuate but are always infectious.

This is a single you want to listen to loud or with headphones on so you can really soak in everything, especially the lyrics and a lot of those amazing vocal melodies that are performed.

James Artissen is known for unique collaborations, and you can catch a lot of this stuff throughout his back catalog on Spotify.

There are no two songs that are really alike, and this is something that I adored because I was able to hear such a great range from the performer and songwriter.

Tracks like "City Love" and "All Night" showcase different sides of producing, songwriting, and Artistry as a whole.

If you dig this track, then I would strongly suggest checking out a lot of the other releases he's got up there on Spotify, and believe me when I tell you, there are tons of them.

He's got EPs, albums, and plenty of singles to soak in.

So, check this out, and after that, take a deep dive through that Spotify, and there will be loads of jams for you to get into.

Jump on it now so you can hear exactly what I'm talking about.
