If you're not yet too familiar with the music of Horror Scene, then let us be among the first to introduce you, as the band just dropped a new single today, and this thing is massively driving as it blends classic and nu-metal approaches and a thrashing fashion, and gives the whole thing a dark, brutalist edge.
This band is known for bringing together some of the best elements of industrial and gritty, close-fisted metal, and this track is absolutely no exception to any of those rules. The song comes right in with a huge punch, trudging, palm-muted riffs, and slamming drums that are absolutely destructive.
This is all right from the very start of the song.
One of my favorite things about "Yeah You" is how it also takes into consideration some great, eerie keys to blend in more of that Gothic and industrial underbelly even further. The keys had a haunting, choir-style to the track and made everything almost back in an occult metal style.
The vocals are absolutely shredding, layered with two or three tracks at a time, and each track is performing a little bit of a different tone. I love this because it makes it feel like the vocals are performed by a crowd. They're almost like crew vocals that you would hear in a punk rock song, but a little different.
As usual, these guys never fall short of this kind of dark, cinematic backbone, which is kind of a staple in their music.
The fun thing about it is that it's a jumpy song. You can bounce to it, head-bang, or sing along to the whole thing. There's this element of catchiness to the song, and it comes in right from the first time you hear vocals. The lyrics and vocals bounce perfectly in between those beats so that it becomes like a groove.
The elements of classic thrash metal and that nu-metal feel come together perfectly, and again, they also make sure they keep that industrial punch involved.
The keys add this vast tonality that makes the song feel very spacious, and I like this because it gives it more layers of depth.
During those choruses, you're meant to sing along. You're meant to put your fists in the air and chant along with that huge and aggressive chorus.
He even says, "Everybody sing with me, fuck you, yeah you", and it's an invitation.
Listening to this course, even for the first time, you can tell it's meant for a live crowd. And when you get the right crowd in front of you, you'll have hundreds of people chanting right alongside. Just the thought of it is invigorating.
We've reviewed their music before, and I may have said it then, but I'm going to say it again: this band is absolutely powerful. They are meant to be seen live. When you listen to their songs, you immediately want to go and watch them perform them.
This is an actual perfect example of what I mean.
The guitar work is stellar, giving you some melodic stuff that comes during the background of the second half of the choruses, adding a little bit of extra flavor to them, and what would have massive metal banger like this be without a bit of halftime breakdown action?
They definitely provide that just before the last set of choruses. It has a great breakdown section that's meant for the mosh pit, and there's also some really cool time signature going on the drums during this section.
One of the things I really got attached to was some of the lead guitar stuff. It's never really crazy over the top. It's not shredding with a trillion notes at a time. It's more melodic, and you can tell that the guitarist could absolutely shred to no end if he wanted to, but instead, they kept those lead guitars more melodic and hookier with elements of technical shred in there, but again, nothing too crazy.
This really shows you that the whole band really focuses on the song itself. They want the song to come through with the right kind of punch in the right places.
There's a lot of thought that goes into arrangements like this one, and this band is all about their songwriting.
This was absolutely killer and really stands out in terms of catchy metal opuses that are quick, hit hard, and showcase a band that really loves what they're doing.
Everyone is totally in love with writing these songs; you can absolutely tell just by listening to them.
So, you listen to this track and try and tell me that you don't want to go see them live immediately afterwards.
You can actually picture a live crowd in your head while they're chanting that big chorus.
I think this is half of the point.
At any rate, turn this up and check it out right now. Be ready to bang your head.
