Combining elements of Folk music, indie-rock and Americana music, LA-based Singer-Songwriter Hilary Cousins’ music blends evocative lyrics, haunting melodies, and stirring rhythms. Colored with visual imagery, Hilary’s songwriting conveys an acute awareness of love, grief, hope and the struggle to understand an often incomprehensible world. Cousins’ unconventional upbringing has informed his music and perspective on life. His father was an ex-Jesuit and theologian from New Orleans and his mother was a professor of English literature. Their home in rural Connecticut was a magnet for scholars, poets, nuns, mis-fits and seekers from around the globe... it was an atmosphere where the stuff of everyday life and the sublime easily mingled. As a creative professional, Hilary has worn a variety of hats including working as a writer, filmmaker, creative director, editor, and audio engineer. All of these skills influence his songwriting and fuel his musical expression. A native of New England and now based in Los Angeles, Hilary finds inspiration in the evocative landscape, flourishing music community, and the generous listeners of Southern California.
