"The initial inspiration for this song was an early season episode of Black Mirror — which led me to think about how we are so transfixed in making our personal lives out to be brands ready to be sold on social media. Every post, story, reel is so carefully curated, and we’re ALL guilty of it and the doomscrolling lifestyle that follows it. But who is it for? Why do we do it? What are we hoping to find at the end of a doomscroll? “VIOLET” is the static void, the abysmal collection of everything we post, throw, scream into the unknown. What does it look like if we merge ourselves completely with it? If instead of breaking free and looking up, we choose to hypnotically surrender to walking straight into the VIOLET as a form of digital baptism? “VIOLET” is a lyrically tongue-in-cheek, dark alt-pop track about going mad from the fake joy of a digital brainwash. It was an honor to work with ATX producer Taylor Webb again to nail the chaotic synthy textures and cinematic feel this track so desperately deserved. " " When listening to the track, I kept thinking about doomscrolling — this repetitive search that felt almost like endlessly running towards something… or away from it. “VIOLET” is the third video in a 3 part series, following “Standing O” (1) where I am still tied to the past, and “Nearsighted” (2) where I’m being pulled through a self-inflicted purgatory. In “VIOLET,” I’ve broken free and have the chance to escape. Each scene in the music video represents a stage of grief, something else we all find ourselves running from. It was important to me to tell a more personal story with this visual, with the video itself being a real life enactment and captured ritual of me confronting my past and cutting myself free of generational energy and trauma I was tired of outrunning. “VIOLET” serves as a visual metaphor of what happens when we stop running, and decide to confront the fear — even if it means severing ourselves from a past self. Ima Leupp (director/DP), Joseph Hassage (editor), Anna Fugate-Downs (makeup/SFX), Alex Kouvatsos (colorist/title artist) and the rest of the team completely brought our vision to life in the most rewarding, satisfying ways possible.
