A new release from Fitzsimon and Brogan brings out a bit of a blend of classic rock with extra drive, and its undertone from some edgy guitar work and hints of a southern swag in the vocals.
"Hourglass Girl" is a track that certainly hits all the sweet spots when it comes to a great sort of classic rock feeling single, and the percussion and guitars have a lot to do with that.
Some of the guitars do have some of that southern twang in there as well, and you can hear that coming through in the track with some overlapping guitars underneath the chord progressions, and the drumming is just outstanding. There's always this great ride symbol going through the track that adds a little bit of a groove to the song.
The vocals are pretty straightforward but very addictive. Lyrically, you're getting the sense that this is coming from a personal perspective about someone who left their partner for someone else.
This feels familiar to plenty of us, and I feel like they really nailed the sentiment of the situation well with some of the straightforward lyrics.
This track definitely doesn't put many walls around itself when it comes to those lyrics, and as you listen through, the whole situation unfolds, and you get a sense for some of the heartbreak involved, along with this understanding of the dating life.
As the song unfolds, you get some great vocal harmonies and more vast guitars that come into play, and the whole thing really hits the sweet spot in terms of giving you something that you can dance to, but also has that rock undertone.
Again, there is that southern feel to it, and it gives you a hint of almost a certain way, but again, that's because of that tone in the vocals and certain guitar sections as well.
The lyrics get into the fact that even though that person is with the new girl now, their time is surely going to run out. She is the hourglass girl.
Your time will always run out with her. Even though it's a warning, again, there is plenty of sentiment of heartbreak, and that may not necessarily mean it's coming from the person who was left. It may just mean you will get your heart broken, so beware.
I love songs like this because they paint such great pictures, and this track was definitely riddled with great character, which makes for a very memorable song.
Definitely check this one out as you won't soon forget it; it brings into play a lot of classic rock influences, and with that, you get a certain kind of attitude portrayed, which again, builds on the character behind the song.
It's all very well done, and I suggest you check this one out as soon as you can.
If you dig this, then I would suggest checking out some of their other releases dropped earlier this year, as well as their full LP, The Wicket Pantomim, which was dropped back in 2020 but still holds true to their sound and showcases different sides of the songwriting and approaches.
Take a deep dive into this one as soon as you can, and you won't be disappointed.
