Emma Lindquist has been dropping some hints and singles leading up to her album, and it has now arrived, bringing with it a very one-on-one temperament that digs into the artist's psyche a bit, but also exhibits how she can come across with a bit of boldness as she speaks her truths through her music.
Hello tiger be my friend is a record that breeds many different styles but seems to always hover around under the pop umbrella, near perfectly.
The album displays a lot of wonderfully woven guitar work that comes together and helps the sound become whole. Songs weave acoustic and electric guitars in a seamless fashion, and it brings a brightness along with it.
"If I met somebody new" gives you a lot of this. The blending and meshing of electric and acoustic guitar work make for a song that feels full-flavored.
Throughout the song, she gets into a situation where there is a heavy-handed love or lust for the other person, but they may not feel the same. It deals with some of the emotion that goes along with that sort of situation, and it's very honest and very upfront.
"Questions" also takes pretty deep into personal life, but again, she doesn't hold things back.
This is a huge part of why you get wrapped up in the record in the first place.
This song has a very unique approach, time signature, and this almost jazz-like tone that feels exceptionally warm, but then her vocals also build on that tone as well. Her singing voice has an elegance to it that puts you in the moment with the song.
There are no two songs that are super alike throughout the course of the album.
"Feelings" is one of the more graceful and beautiful songs on the record, as it is stripped down, revolving around acoustic guitar and vocals alone until a little later in the song when you hear what feels or sounds like lap steel coming in.
This was a song you get sucked right into, and it's one of the tracks that boasts her vocal warmth as well.
She's got plenty of that throughout the record, but songs like this, that are more stripped-down, let you soak in those vocals and how vulnerable they might feel. You can hear how a lot of this comes straight from the heart.
She's clearly not afraid to give you songs that are a little deeper for the digging, more personal, and give you the feel of a live performance.
It sounds like this one that lets you feel like you're in the room with her as she plays it right in front of you. This is what I mean when I say things, as it puts you in the moment with the song.
There's also the way she articulates those lyrics that let you relate to them easily.
She is almost poetic while being incredibly straightforward all at once.
This was a beautifully experimental but incredibly exquisite record that really feels refined.
There is a strong sort of confidence that comes along with a lot of these songs, and this is why they stay with you after they have ended.
She has a knack for telling stories from that very personal perspective.
The record has a bit of a spacious undertone at times, but more often feels alive and in the room with you.
This was a soul-pop record that took acoustic and electric guitar work, wonderful keys and synthesizers, and those alluring vocals, put them all together, and made something that attaches itself to you.
Listen to this whole album because it's more than worth your time, especially if you want something that will make you feel or think.
Check this out so you can hear exactly what we're talking about. You most certainly do not want to miss this record.
