Delve Into The Music of David Scott Binanay

ree

An EP release from David Scott delivers a wonderful mixture of natural and digital instrumentation in the form of three singles that come through with a chill undertone, combining elements of jazz, classical, and more, while also giving off electronic soundscapes, simultaneously.

Part of the beauty of the Some Things Are Cool album is that even with three tracks, it still keeps you on your toes.

The first track, "007", is certainly the most laid-back one of the group. This has a slow tempo, strings that are orchestrated, but in the form of an almost vintage feeling tonality.

The strings feel almost like they were pulled from an old vinyl that was an original score for a film during the late seventies.

This is accompanied by gorgeous piano work that is subtle, delicate, smooth, jazz-toned, and peppered with additional melodies and changes.

This first track is almost like an introduction to the record, and it serves its purpose well. It opens the door for more of these amazing staples that you hear throughout its course, but each track stands on its own two feet very well.

The combination of vintage tonalities, jazz infusion, and orchestral instrumentation all feel amazing when you put them together because they create this atmosphere that is robust but still subtle and smooth.

"zone clear" is the next track, and this one has a little bit more of an electronic vibe or feel to it. The track bases itself on some really cool edits and synth / key effects and tones that are unique.

You still get that vintage undertone, and I love that because it keeps the chill factor really relevant, but it is put together a little differently than the first one.

What's probably the most experimental of the group is the third track called "here now", which features a lot of a sort of contemporary pop blend with these classic piano lines, blended in with what I would still consider to be a chill beat but at a higher tempo, along with some vocal samples that sort of float around and are sprinkled about throughout the track.

This track also has some great keyboard work with a crazy ref that fits perfectly within that laid-back beat, and the percussion helps push a little bit of the drive as well.

A little more than halfway through the track, the beat changes its style and almost breakbeat, and I dig this too. I wasn't expecting that change, and this also again, showcases some of the experimental approaches that the record boasts.

David Scott Binanay is a composer, producer, and violinist who focuses on opening doors to the power of healing through music.

The way he puts together the elements of music and medicine is unique and quite innovative.

The artist is also the CEO of the Violin Consultant Group, which is a label that specializes in distribution and publishing, along with music business administration, supporting artists as they try to navigate their way through the music industry.

So, you can see he's utilized his musical approach and knowledge throughout almost every facet of his life.

I love hearing original music from people like this because it showcases some of their influences.

You can clearly hear that there's a lot of cinematic influence when it comes to David's songwriting and approach. After listening to this release, I dipped it to some others like "Dropzone", which came through more bombastically, with a cinematic drive, some amazing instrumentation, and a very powerful punch.

The artist also doesn't hold back from collaborating with some outstanding vocalists for different tracks throughout his catalog, and I strongly suggest checking these out because they range from a more smooth, hip hop approach, to cinematic and contemporary-based ballads.

David has an absolute slew of releases that are outstanding, and you can check a lot of them out on Spotify. They range from EPs to full-length albums and more.

If you dig this record, then I would heavily suggest checking more of this out. I also suggest checking a lot of this out with headphones on so you can really soak in The Vibes and the atmosphere that a lot of these songs push out there.

After checking out more of his music, I had to chat with David about this record, especially about his influences, what might be coming up next for him, and more.

So, while you listen to this material, have a read through of our interview with David Scott below.

Let's talk about Some Things Are Cool! This EP had such a vibe! It certainly drew from some classic chill approaches and felt a bit cinematic at times as well! Very easy to groove with! Where did this EP come from?

I make music every day and am very creative with it when making my own music. If an artist hires me to arrange their song or produce their album, I can do that as well...

I'm hearing a few different approaches to this record! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

I listen to everything from classical to folk, jazz and soul to hip hop and pop. I play it all on the violin too. I love the Great American songbook. Its some of the best music ever written.

Did you record this at a home setup, or at a big studio? Both...I have an awesome studio space at home but have also been in some epic studio spaces.

How did this all start for you as an artist?

I've been playing music since I was 5. Played Carnegie Hall when I was 12 and Joe Bidens Clean Energy Inauguration in 2020. I played big stages all my life and definitely paid my dues to those empty rooms. I had 4 open heart surgeries throughout my life and music was and is my language to express and communicate.

Now that this is out, what's next for you?

I am an applicant for The Recording Academy....maybe I get in maybe I don't...also it would be good to have more listeners and trigger the algorithms on the DSPs. The music is great...way better than the AI stuff. I also saw a government contract job that pays 2.4 million....maybe I just hang up music all together. My babies gotta eat!

Who's in your headphones right now?

Tron soundtrack. R IV. David Scott. Frank Sinatra. Haley Williams. LVITTO. MayDayGLO

What would you tell people they can expect on this release?

Reach out if you wanna lease the beats. thevcg.io@gmail.com. also look out for more gems from my label The VCG. My artists are alot of fun and super dedicated.

Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?

Book a gig. Play everyday. Help others.
