CECILIE Delivers A Stripped Down And Emotional Live Single
A beautifully performed new single from CECILIE breeds a very vulnerable kind of honesty, and because of that, you get attached to the song right from the very start. The honesty she brings to the table feels kind of painful, and perhaps writing and releasing this song was somewhat cathartic for the artist.
At least, that's what it feels like when you listen to the song. It feels like this was deep-rooted and probably wasn't the easiest thing to write about.
This one song, "Alone," showcases an artist who absolutely puts pieces of herself into her music. Perhaps it's even therapeutic, or something she needs to do to move on.
This particular track is called "Paperthin Devotion," and it is a unique live studio session performance of it.
Now, understanding that this is a live performance brings an even more personal approach when you listen. It has a different way of putting you there, in the moment with the song.
Even if it wasn't a live performance, this is a track that pulls you in and sort of swallows you up.
It's stripped down. It's acoustic guitar and vocals for the most part. She doesn't need a lot of layering or additional instrumentation to really capture the emotion.

The way she articulates her vocals is beautiful, simply because she's able to tell this story from her own perspective.
She paints a crystal-clear picture as the song unfolds, showing how the whole thing affected her.
There are elements of metaphorical aspects in those lyrics, but some of them are just straightforward as well. That metaphoric and straightforward blend is really well done.
It somehow keeps this balance.
Now, this is how I interpreted the song. Someone else may listen to it and take it in a little differently. For me, the sentiment was loud and clear.
This was a wonderfully woven and intensely performed single that has a natural flow to it and really pulls you into its atmosphere.
The single is melodically driving and intensely memorable. It has a way of sticking with you long after it has ended.
This is also quite a great track to introduce yourself to the artist. She has released a lot of really outstanding singles, and I would suggest jumping into songs like "Kaleidoscope" after this one.
Her songs can feel either stripped down or very lush. There's always that sort of emotional pull, and she's always able to tell a story.
You can kind of hear that she's a bit of a natural storyteller through a lot of her music.
This song is warm but cuts deep all at once. The tones of the acoustic guitar and her vocals complement each other perfectly, and those tones are very warm and almost inviting.
But again, the lyrics cut deep. And so, this kind of combination also lets the song come through with its own elegant but very personal aesthetic.
I think those two things go hand in hand and are portrayed with grace in this piece of work.
