A single release from Bray Smizzi brings out an intense swagger and hard-hitting veracity with plenty of uplifting spirit that lets the song truly showcase the artist's presence.
"Championship" doesn't waste much time getting straight to the point with lyrics that focus on the fact that Bray is on fire and there's basically nothing that's going to stand in his way.
It's super inspirational, and you can hear how he really means it. This is all coming from some real place, and because it's such a spirited track, it's hard to turn away from.
The track is all about how he's putting himself out there as an artist and dropping tracks like this, but some feel like he's winning a championship, and in a way, he is.
This is an absolute banger that takes notes from both classic and new school hip hop approaches, with lyrical phrasing that hits hard and tells his truths.
The production and beat have a lot going on. It's very lush and full-bodied with layers of synths, keys, pads, and an almost orchestral feel, giving things a slightly cinematic undertone as Bray raps on top of it and showcases that heavy-handed persona.
One of the things that really hits you hard is the energy level throughout this track. He really portrays such a brilliant energy, and that is very infectious. This, along with the character delivered, makes for a track that leaves its mark.
As I mentioned before, there's a lot of swagger in his vocal approach, and that's a real key element in terms of coming across with the right attitude and approach.
This whole track boasts a particular aesthetic, and it's one that serves well for the genre because it's radio-friendly and feels very current, again, while blending certain classic influences in there.
The track has a great way of putting you right there in the moment and you can feel that energy and spirit coming through.
It's a song that has a lot of punch in all the right places, and you can tell he put a lot of work into how he was arranging the track.
The first chorus comes in under 30 seconds, hooking you into the track and the robust and intense approach that it gives off.
This is a single that absolutely bounces from start to finish, and it's something that you should listen to loud.
I dig any kind of track that showcases this much persona and does so with a certain level of honesty as well. Yes, he's coming from a place of higher ground. Like I said before, he's basically saying, 'Get out of his way because he's coming through, and nothing's going to stop him.' He does this because he's in that place mentally, and that whole aesthetic is delivered on the track perfectly.
Upon listening to this track, I took a little bit of a deep dive into the artist's catalog on Spotify and found a bunch of amazing releases.
Tracks like "Lost" showcase a different side to his personality and artistry as well, with a sort of eerie and cinematic style beat that lets him serve up a different style of rapping.
As you dig through these different songs, you start to realize that Bray actually has a lot of diverse approaches to rapping and writing his lyrics.
Another track called "Swanky" has an almost pop undertone to it and comes through super catchy with tight double-tracked vocals, and this gives it a different feel.
One of my favorites, though, is an album release from 2022 called News Feed, which delves a little bit deeper into his life. It feels like he's coming from more of a personal space throughout this record, or at least on certain tracks, and that speaks volumes for the artist.
There's a lot of great releases from Bray that you should be checking out, but I would start with "Championship", just to start getting yourself into the headspace that he's at.
Again, there's a lot of diversity in the songwriting, approaches, bending of genres, but still keeping things under the hip hop and rap umbrella, and this all speaks volumes for the hardest as someone who puts himself out there in different ways and knows how to perform on record.
Listening to a lot of his tracks makes you want to see him live, and that's something you don't come across often.
So, take a deep dive into the music of Bray Smizzi, and see exactly what it does for you.
If you're a fan of diverse and outside-the-box rap along with familiar and heavy-hitting approaches, this is absolutely for you.
