Billy Ray Norris is a Tesla cowboy writing shotgun on a future stage display. Guitar in hand, in a Country band, from Nashville, Carlsbad, Portland, Hilo, and LA. Is he a robot, or just another red-dirt day? With roots in Texas, Oklahoma he grew up learning how to love The Notebook way. And that Montana Gold, when left alone, still seems to play. So what the hay? Who’s Billy Ray? He’s a genre-jumping wrangler, started gospel, then went country, folk jazz and rock, then back to Country roots today. Horses seem to make him happy — Arab, Quarter, Palomino; Morgan, Paint, the Appaloosa, and all things bay. He’s known as Kai’makani’mele, Paul, Jyoti, Fire Prince, and Billy Ray. He’s first a doctor, writer, teacher — helps people heal — so up on stage will rarely play. “Love is everything,” he’ll say, “and with it hate can be transcended, come what may.”
