A new single release from Delphi Ravens certainly brings out a unique breed of honesty as the lyrics get into a bit of heartbreak and struggle but I feel like that is a brave thing to be able to express musically or in any way really. This track leans on a wonderful blend of classic rock influences but a little bit of an edgier almost alternative rock over time and it works like a charm.
"Bittersweet" certainly feels like it comes from someplace real and that gives it a beautiful authenticity, and the way that the whole performance is done makes it feel like it was recorded live in a certain way or to a certain extent and you get this vibe off of it like you would get watching someone perform it live.
I think it has to do with the energy that's given off and it's not a crazy over the top type of energy, it's a particular kind of energy and it makes the song feel cinematic, a little bit sullen, and I believe it's the way that the music flows with the vocals and the whole premise of things not getting easier when it comes to a heartbreak.
The song balances out textually incredibly well for example, the way the vocals are performed have this sort of softness to it and a graceful approach which makes them feel passionate and emotionally driven.
The guitar work is a little on the edge of your side at times but does breed that classic rock undertone and then there's this great sort of guitar solo towards the end of the song that matches that emotional level of the vocals.
So, I think it's outstanding how they're able to have these elements sort of complement each other throughout the song.
This track leaves a mark and has an impactful vibe to it and we're no strangers to Delphi Ravens as we have reviewed and listened to a lot of their stuff before, and I definitely can say that this is not a surprising step but a really good step in terms of the direction of their sound.
This band always puts a heart into their music in some way shape or form and there is almost always a bit of emotional undertone with their music which I feel is very important in terms of having a band that creates songs that have these great rock elements but also have deeper meaning to them as well.
This is a song that sticks with you for a long time, and you can see it in the scene of a film for example.
This is what I mean by cinematic. It's got a drama-based tonality to it, and it works really well.
There's something about this track that makes memories of your own pop into your head at random and I love that as well because that forms a particular connection that you don't often get from music.
What are the things I loved about this was the fact that it did actually have a kind of 90s rock feel to it and that has a lot to do with the guitar work and the drumming and it's all done with attention to detail but still that little hint of looseness that makes it feel again, almost like a live performance.
For a song to come through feeling like it's alive and breathing is intense.
There are layers to the track but it's still straightforward and has a wondrous way of blending honesty and a little bit of edginess together to create a certain kind of atmosphere that you end up getting pulled into.
This track definitely can pull you away from your surroundings and put you into a bit of a different place for a small chunk of time.
Check this track out when you can, and I suggest doing it with headphones on so you can soak in everything that's going on and while you're at it I would also always suggest digging through the Delphi Ravens back catalog on Spotify because it's so worth your time.
