A Wonderfully Woven Maxi Single from Lizzi Leigh

A new maxi single release from Lizzi Leigh delivers a unique brand of honesty in the form of pop-coated songs that can be very descriptive and detailed to the point where you can paint a vivid picture in your head as you're listening to the song but both of the tracks on this release bear a lot of character, and it's that sort of personality that you end up getting attached to.

The first of the two tracks is the title track, "Insane" and this is my favorite of the two because it leans more towards a pop-rock vibe with lush and harmonious vocals along with this combination and mixture of color and edginess that come together extremely well.

The thing about this track is that it's got an amazing energy to it to the point where it feels like it may have just been recorded live to a certain extent and I like that sort of fun poppy and electric energy on a song like this because it gives an extra life and push.

Lizzi has a particular way of giving pieces of herself into her songs and that is through the honesty and truth that they deliver but the way that she does it is almost connective so you can completely relate to where she's coming from and a song like "Insane" is the kind of song that could have easily been part of the soundtrack to a certain chapter in your own life so again, that connectivity hits hard and comes right in.

I definitely love a song that lets an artist shine, and this track certainly does because she's able to just come through with a brightness and a strong presence throughout the whole thing.

You can tell that she's releasing music that is produced well and has a heavy radio friendliness to it but also has fewer boundaries or walls built around it so that she can be truthful, and she can tell the story.

I find this to be really important aspect for a lot of artists and Lizzi hits that nail on the head especially with the title track.

The song features acoustic guitar as well as electric guitar and these sort of floating synth pads that are almost used like strings that drift through the song's ether giving it a vaster undertone and that all comes together with her vocals in a way that lets everything complement each other.

The second track is called "Holding Hands" and this one Bears a little bit of a different approach musically as it's got a sort of 90s and early 2000s hip-hop beat to it in a way and that is combined with clean guitars and keys along with her sort of graceful vocal approach and I feel like this does bear a bit of that 90s alt-pop tonality at times.

This one was a little bit nostalgic for me and I love that aspect about it, and it also shows some of the same descriptive lyrics and truthfulness, so you know that this also came from someplace real.

Both of these songs were wonderfully woven, and you can tell there was a lot of attention to detail during the creation of these songs, but you can also tell that she wasn't afraid to let a little bit loose and let that presence shine.

There is an almost strange kind of warmth and welcoming to these songs and again, you find yourself getting attached to the character behind them.

This was a beautiful release and upon listening to these songs I took a little bit of a deep dive into her back catalog in which I found two other EP releases from 2017 and 2021 each with a little bit of a different side to her songwriting and her personality.

I found it very enlightening and entertaining to listen to her evolution as an artist from then until now.

Take a listen to this release, and then try going back through her catalog because you might like some of our other songs as well.
