A Warm New Single from Lady Lazarus

A fresh new single release from Lady Lazarus delivers quite an important sentiment to a lot of us out there. The song is based on how a man can be on the outside but feel on the inside. She holds very little back in terms of articulating lyrics and laying everything out there from both perspectives, especially how she feels about it. More importantly, though, it's about how she can see past the tough guy element and understand the layers that lie beneath.

The song expresses how it's okay to have those layers, and that she understands and she's there.

This is all really important because to have a song like this is very connective for both men and women, honestly.

It's beautifully woven and has a warm and very welcoming, freeing, and sort of spirited approach with beautiful tones coming from acoustic guitars and outstanding bass guitar lines that push the song forward and give it this natural feeling flow.

The song balances the line between folk, Americana, and contemporary. It has such a great combination of those three styles that it breeds its own atmosphere, in a sense.

During the verses, you pay a lot of attention to those lyrics, and her vocals come through soft, subtle, and sort of delicate, walking along the lines and lyrics themselves.

She was really able to capture the right kind of mood for those lyrics. The instrumentation and music of the song do indeed create this brilliant mood, and throughout those verses, as you are soaking in the lyrics, you get a real understanding of what the song is about and the messaging behind it.

When the choruses come up, things get a little bit more robust and full-bodied.

I really adored this aspect as well because it just showcases really smart songwriting that enables the song to really be catchy and memorable but also has these layers and deeper meaning to it.

This is a song with depth to it. I love how it's coming from her particular perspective, but how she understands the man's perspective as well.

"Tough Guy" is the kind of song that stands tall amongst many of the genre, simply because it touches on authenticity. She really connects with certain aspects of what it is to just be alive and be a person.

I think it takes a smart songwriter to be able to understand that kind of perspective and also be so open in terms of welcoming those layers that are beneath the tough guy surface.

Her performance vocally is really amazing, sort of warm, and it invites you into the sentiment of the song perfectly.

She displays a lot of heart and understanding, compassion, and a sense of vulnerability coming from that different perspective.

It's not all the time you get a song like this because it reaches into these different areas and has such an honest and truthful sort of approach that it's hard to turn away from.

You definitely get a sense of that southern undertone, especially during the chorus is as certain organs are very deep beneath the layers of beautiful guitar work.

Those guitars also have a bit of twang to them, and the song rhythm, all sorts of beckoning country music.

Listening to this song really gives you a grasp of some of the artist's many influences, but more importantly, it gives her personality.

The song bears tons of character, and I think that's what you end up really getting attached to the most.

It's refreshing to hear a song that showcases this level of honesty and understanding while still being able to give a soundscape that is so incredibly memorable, and there is a lot about the song that sticks with you.

Not just the lyrics, but it's got hooks. Those choruses seem to bounce around in your head for hours after the song is ended, and the only way to satiate that is to go and listen to the song again.

It's a song that talks about how the lives that we live end up making us who we are. The life of a tough guy is obviously a bit of a hard one. That's why you end up like that.

But there's more to life than just the hard times, just as there's more to someone's personality than just the outer coating.

Lady Lazarus sees through that and is able to articulate that so well into song that it's almost automatically relatable.

As a man, I definitely understood exactly where she was coming from with this, and that's part of why it blew me away.

Upon listening to this single, I took a bit of a deep dive through her back catalog on Spotify and came across an amazing album released in 2019 that really showcases a bit of a different side to her songwriting.

The album is called Impossible Journey of My Soul Tonight, and this is quite an immense record that also gets pretty personal and definitely delves into more of her personality, but in a different manner.

I would definitely suggest listening to this record as well and doing it all with headphones on because it's one of the best ways to soak in all of the beautiful tones and layers that come through from all this music.

So, check this track out and more, so you can see exactly what I'm talking about.

You will not soon be disappointed.
