The latest release from Simone Tang comes through with a graceful and extremely honest tonality as she sings about the loss of a loved one that meant so much to her and that incredible emotional drive is not only intense but somehow warming at the same time.
"On the quarreletes of pearls" is absolutely beautiful and it is so for more than a few reasons. The entire approach is very personal and the performance on the track itself musically and vocally a blend of classic folk, and singer-songwriter, and somehow reaches into the depths of your own thoughts as you listen.
The song has a slightly stripped-down approach, true to classic folk as well, and features an acoustic guitar that is played with a graceful tonality and vocals that are very one-on-one but also serve as a certain kind of lushness for the track after a time.
The vocal performance is very passionate and that's because of the premise of the song along with being able to use those vocals almost as instruments themselves as the song plays on in the background and this is something that adds depth to the musical sense of the track and brings out even more of that sort of intense emotional backbone.
This was something that leaves its mark long after the song ends. It has the ability to make you think of your own past and different ways because of what the song is actually about.
The song focuses on the loss of father to alcohol. This is a subject that for some, strikes a very personal note of their own because it isn't a very uncommon thing unfortunately.
The way she displays her heartbreak and how she wishes he could be there so that they can sing their song together is just so beautiful and so authentic that you cannot help but be swept up into what this song is and what it meant to her.
Now, if you have any kind of experience with loss in general which most of us do, then you will relate that to this song because that emotion is so strong to all of us, and it is displayed so powerfully during this track that you cannot help but think of your own.
This, to me, is one of the more beautiful aspects of the song as a whole.
I feel like it had to be cathartic for Simone to write and release and I hope it was.
I hope that in a certain way she found some kind of closure and that she knows somewhere her father is actually hearing this song.
This is something I firmly believe and whether or not you want to be up to you, however, this song will have an effect on you when you listen to it.
The whole performance is at times even overwhelming because of the way she displays her heartbreak, her loss, her want, and her memories of her father.
I certainly hope that my saying all of this is not going too far and I don't think it is because Simone herself wrote the song and put it out into the world and she should know that for people who feel alone after a certain kind of loss, listening to the song will help them feel they are not so alone in their struggle.
The beautifully performed and very personal release is a bit of a glimpse into her upcoming record set to be released in early November.
I for one will be paying a lot of attention to this release because the song moved me and I am very hopeful to have more of these emotionally bountiful and beautifully displayed songs on her full album.
Take a listen to this song and see how it affects you because I'm sure it will certainly will.
