A Theatrical and Swingin' Single from Goodmonster

Goodmonster offers a theatrical and detailed rock single that boasts southern swing undertones and a sort of gothic edginess to it that all come together to create an atmosphere that you get sucked right into and a story that is described so well lyrically that you can pretty much picture the entire thing in your head as it's happening.

"Highway 61 Revisted" has a ton of character to it and the vocals come through animated which again, boasts that whole theatrical tonality that the song gives off and throughout it all, you start to become attached to not only the story but the drive of the music as well.

This track has some outstanding drumming and rhythm that does indeed give a little bit of a southern swing to it, and this also adds to an amazing sort of electric energy that the track has to the point where it feels almost like it may have been recorded live on the floor to an extent and everyone involved is just feeding off of each other the entire time.

The track bounces and you bounce right along with it and i feel like the drumming on this track not only gives it a great rhythmic time signature, but it also adds to that live performance field because the drums are the thing that makes this track feel alive and breathing.

There are so many swells and sways throughout the track and the drums of the thing that pushes that envelope.

Of course, the entire band follows suit, and the guitars go from a sort of classic rhythm that has a subtlety to it, to explosive sections and you don't expect them when they come.

I love how detailed the lyrics are and how the vocals give off this colorful sort of tonality because it goes along with the guitars a lot of the time.

This track is pretty much acoustic guitar in terms of the main rhythm instrument and so to give off this level of energy and impact with an acoustic guitar is impressive.

The vocals do build and boast this lush soundscape and certainly do add a whole different layer of texture to the track itself and this is what gives it that explosive feel as well.

This track has a way of letting you kind of escape into it. When you listen, it pulls you away from whatever you're doing and puts you right in the storyline and the excitement of the song itself.

All of those aspects are infectious.

I think what makes this track so special is that it does indeed combine several genres together in one track and you don't even notice it the first time around because you're paying attention to the lyrics and what's happening in the song itself.

By the second time you listen to the song you start realizing that the excitability comes from this sort of pop rock and almost punk edge, the acoustic element comes from a sort of rustic folk approach, and the whole thing ends up engulfing you.

This track was endlessly fun and upon listening to it I had to take a little bit of a deep dive into the back catalog of the band, and I'm glad that I did because I found some amazing stuff including an EP from last year called Beautiful Illusion that's absolutely outstanding.

I would suggest checking this track out as soon as you can and if you do it with headphones on you'll get wrapped up in it.

And then, go and check out some of the other releases from this band because it's all outstanding.

Have fun with this deep dive, you won't soon regret it.
