A Robust And Theatrical Release from KC VITAs

ree

A new album release from KC VITAs delivers such a unique feel and soundscape that borders on a robust and Theatrical approach and comes through as such a wonderfully lush and welcoming experience.

KC VITas is a vocal ensemble out of Kansas City, and this is their debut release, which is really saying something because it's amazingly beautiful, and listening to how they utilize their vocals as instruments throughout this record is breathtaking at times.

The album is called When We Arrive At Home, and it wastes very little time diving right in with some gorgeous sounds on the first track, "Boundless", composed by Ashi Day.

Right off the bat, you're getting some intense layers of gorgeous vocals coming in and thickness that these vocal textures can bring forth. It is again, very Lush and can be intense at times, but always has a sort of graceful tonality to it all.

One of the biggest aspects of this whole thing is the performances because that's really what hits the nail on the head. Between the different pitches, Altos and Sopranos, and everything coming together, it really creates this beautiful presence.

It has been a very long time since I've heard something so unique, and I had absolutely forgotten how vocal performances alone can create such huge soundscapes.

This whole release accentuates that aspect and does so with a certain kind of charm that lets you really get into the entire project.

"Chainlink Fences", composed by Natalie Dietterich, is a particularly moving piece for me. This one showcases more of how the deeper, male vocals can come through with such a tone that it feels almost like you're listening to strings or synths.

Only when they break the note and finish the words that they're singing do you come back to recognizing that those are vocals also.

These kinds of aspects below me away, and they happen continuously throughout the record.

This ensemble has been around for over a decade, and they really portray such a unique approach, taking pieces from composers that they each look up to in order to put the record together.

This is amazingly moving at certain points,

Certain tracks really lift you up and take you along for this amazing musical Journey. Title track, "When We Arrive Home", by Ben Zucker is a perfect example of this.

At different parts of the song, vocals perform a crescendo, and these layers of notes tumble on top of each other and create a wall of beautiful sound, which is something that again, blows you away because it's all just vocals.

This is one of those albums you listen to all the way through. Listening to the record from start to finish really delivers a full-bodied experience, and it's definitely unlike anything you've heard before, or at least in a very long time.

Composers across the release include Ashi Day, Kota Hayton, Natalie Diettrich, Bill Alves, Blake Clawson, Ben Zucker, DelShawn Taylor, Charlie Leftridge, Michael Genese, and Matthew Lyon Hazzard.

Each brings a flavorful addition to the release. Artistic director Jackson C Thomas explains "  "

This is a must-hear release that invites your ears to something refreshing and sonically unique that can play wonderful tricks on your ears and really do take you along for an immersive musical Journey.
